Default How I covered the awful Atari gauges

The Atari gauges were probably the biggest turnoff for me when purchasing the G8. However, I proceeded with the assumption that there was a simple, appealing alternative. After spending some time looking through what others have done, I was down to breaking the bank to spend 1.5k on a whole new HSV stereo/dash setup or settling for a reprogrammed triple Atari gauge. I tossed around the idea of covering it up with a tablet, but I wasn't liking the idea of creating a custom mold or settling with some of the other methods I saw on how to mount it. But...once I received the the LG G Pad 8.3X from Verizon for free with the purchase of my V10, I had to make it work. So here is what I did to mount the tablet, in my opinion, in a very clean, stable, accessible, cheap, easy way:

    Yes, Velcro

    Result:

I have since added a case, being that I remove the tablet and throw it in the glove box for security reasons. With the case on, there is no need to leave a open space for the SD card, so I filled the gap with more Velcro. Color of the case is spot on, matching the G8's interior trim. The case is also great for keeping the tablet cool while in direct sunlight.

    What Velcro?

    Or performance??

    Put that thing to use!
It did turn out better than I expected. Others have said the same thing. I haven't really looked at the newer BMW's to confirm. What models have a similar setup?

Most of if not all of the new ones have what looks like a tablet sticking up from the dash. Sisters 3 series, dads X5, M6, and M4 all do.

I have the HSV triple gauges so I don't want to cover them up, but I thought WTH, I have a 5.5" iPhone 6s+ so why not? Just keep forgetting to install it. I only drive the car a few hundred miles a year so...

I had my Atari gauge reprogrammed, and I'm not a fan of the velcro, however, that looks great. If I could get gravity and the ability to ignore inertia, I would throw my tablet up there. 87 days to HRPT. I'll try something.
    Rest in Peace Charlie!

Wow - looks great! Were you able to bring power up to it, or do you just run off of battery?

Can you read Oil pressure with this setup and through that app? I just ordered a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and am planning to do the same thing with a tablet.
