Default Does this look like a problem?

At a car show this evening it seems that the sun hit my car just the right away and I noticed this on my rotors:

I have no loss of braking power, no pulsing, and am around the car enough to know that this has not been there for long. Does this pose a problem if it exhibits no symptoms or brake deterioration? It looks bad but with winter coming I'd rather not change them if I don't have to...

On a side note I was at yet another car show with no G8's but had some nice company this time (it was the owner of this Shelby replica that asked about the brake discoloration - I was too focused on trying to keep the old lady in the power-chair away from my car to notice I guess!):

    looks like you overheated them,
overheating changes the structure of the metal, not a safety issue, but will decrease braking over time, and cause noises.

overall, not a huge deal at this point.
i wouldn't try to turn them either.

I blame the Camaro wheels. You should give those to me immediately!

It's the start of the rotor being glazed.
    Rest in Peace Charlie!

What's the risk in turning them? I have no plans to do so but every time I've been at the dealer for brake issues they want to turn them. Should I have a replacement set ready and have them try to turn them?

That's definitely next, however after the exhaust I have to NEED them or the wife will not be happy!

The wheels will be coming off this weekend as they are slowing me down too much at the track (and winter is coming). Maybe with some help I can convince myself that the best way to overcome the extra weight is to put a charger on it ;-) One can only dream...

Will scrubbing it down at least get rid of the ugliness or is this 'stained' for good now?

the molecular structure of the metal has changed, it's become harder,
you will likely need to remove to much from the rotors during a resurfacing.

with that said, there are a number of reasons to not resurface rotors,
only 1 reason to resurface them, money.

either way, if you are not having any issues right now i wouldn't worry about it.

...so if you plan on tracking it more, you need new rotors. If you are not, you should be OK (even with a resurface).
Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

One more question...how do I prevent my new rotors (once I order them) from rusting like mine have? These have been turned a few times and been man-handled by the dealer. They also have around 30K miles on them.

Will nickle plating take care of this?

Plating will slow the rust, not prevent it. They are cast iron after all. Many companys offer black, gold or silver zinc plating. It will keep the hub centre and fins looking better, longer. Centric rotors are "e" coated. (better grade of paint) I found it easier to touch up the hubs with BBQ paint each spring when the snows come off. That rotor is not stained, it has been tempered. Like how you see uncoated header tubes change colour or "blue" with the heat. Heavy car and heavy Camaro wheels are more than your current pads can handle. Your going to need an upgrade for your way of driving.
