Default Blizzak choices for 18" OEM wheels here, thoughts?

    Blizzak LM-60 H-rated(130mph) @ $205 ea.

    Blizzak LM-25 RFT V-rated(149mph) @ $254 ea.

I am using my 18" OEMs for dedicated winter driving (I have dedicated aftermarket summer wheels and don't want to buy a 3rd set, so here I am). The LM-25's are obviously more expensive, but the writeup on Tirerack lists them as having even better grip in the snow than the LM-60's. Does anyone have any opinions as to whether its worth getting the more expensive of the two in this case? The speed ratings are inconsequential to me as I won't be going that fast... at least around this time of year.

They raise the prices every year before winter. That said, I had the LM25s and it made the car drivable, better than oem. But it's still a RWD car

Out of curiousity, what did you pay for the LM25s?

I paid 200 each, but I have seen them on sale for 149 after the season.

LM 25 is a runflat, that's what costs more $$$, LM60 will prove to be better in snow as more reviews come in....

LM-25 is an older tire. Most shops only have run flats left in stock. Get the new LM-60

I run the LM25's (non-runflat) and the car was an absolute tank in the snow last year. Obviously you can't hammer on it from a stop, but I found the traction/stability control along with the Blizzaks made the car better than any FWD w/all-seasons I've ever had.

I'd go with the LM60's in this case, RFT's are probably pretty harsh on crappy roads during the winter.

i have the lm-60's and no complaints other than spending a grand on winter tires. car drove great all winter with them and stability control on. slipped a few times in snow filled parking lots, but not enough to be concerned or to get stuck.

what are the chances of getting a flat in the winter anyhow?

Thanks for all the replies, it looks like I'll be going with the LM-60's.

Doc, LMK if I'm right here... it's normally preferred to go with a skinnier tire, with a taller sidewall (aspect ratio is ok, minus one or minus two wheel sizing if possible), correct? I think the TR winter kit for our cars is recommended at a 225/55/17, get this in the Blizzak LM-60 and you'll be surprised. A couple years back I put some WS60s on my 1993 Mustang GT, and it was a completely different car. You could kick the back out in a powerslide if you wanted, but if you drove like you had any sense it was amazing the control those tires gave. I want to be super-silly this year and am going to put Blizzaks on the wife's Subaru Tribeca. That should be nothing short of incredible in the snow.
