    Default 6.0 L dipstick levels

I really hate to have to ask this question. In the owners manual it says “If the oil is below the MIN (minimum) mark, add at least one quart / liter of the recommended oil”. On the dipstick in my car there are three holes. In other cars I’ve owned there is usually a mark or an arrow with min or something on it. There is nothing on my dipstick to indicate which hole is what. I had an oil change done at the dealer yesterday. I checked after I left and the level is about half way between the middle and top hole. That is with the end of the dipstick that goes into the crankcase downwards. I don’t want to run it low but I don’t want to overfill it either. If they didn’t add enough I’ll take it back and have it made right.

    The three holes are:

    Min at the bottom hole.
Just right at the middle hole.
    Max at the top hole.

You're good to go, just keep it anywhere between the top and bottom hole and it'll be fine.

My GT runs best with the oil at mid-hole which equates to 8 quarts of oil. If you added one more quart, that would bring it to the top hole. So, my GT runs best a quart low of "Full"

The first 7 quarts should bring the dipstick to first hole "minimum", then next quart "8" brings to middle (how I run), then the next quart "9" brings to top hole...

    Hope this helps.

The middle hole is a 1/2 quart down and the bottom hole is a quart down. And I don't see how a motor can run better with less oil, that's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

Its a shame that cranial cavities don't come with a dipstick.
Think you might be running 2 quarts short of a gallon.

I've never heard on any car running it less than recommended on oil level. I know that on certain BMW engines when they do lapping, track or highly technical courses a lot of drivers add one to two extra quarts (over fill, yes over fill) because the oil sloshes around too much if at a "normal" level and components get starved.

And I thought BMW was the ultimate driving machine (apparently not with the stock recommended level of oil if you're going to be throwing them into high speed apexes over and over again)
