I'm trying to figure out what an eco hippie looks like. If we are so hell bent on keeping fuel for our rides, maybe we need to cut back some on use. I don't enjoy paying 3.30 a gallon for 93 octane, but, as long as I continue to mod my car thats my choice. I don't run e10 anymore as there are no 93 octane stations that offer that octane with the e10 blend. I'm able to get 93 at my local station, 91 octane is the only e10 blend in our area. I'd like to run e85 when I go to the track if I could figure out the tuning and other issue I'd run into. However, the other problem is there are in e85 stations in our area either. I don't consider myself an eco hippy, however, I do hope we can figure out how to fuel the US in years to come. E10 does help, but, the savings are just not there compared to no blend fuels. We've just dug ourselves into a hole over the last 25 years and no one seems to be able to figure out how to get us out. Both parties want to get elected every term and provide a lot of lip service but their actions just don't measure up. We can't drill our way of this either, its going to take some conservation and time to figure this shit out. The governments not responsible for all our problems, we the people have helped fuck this up also. Until we can weed ourselves from middle east oil, nothing is going to change, but, as we saw in the gulf, BP is not to be trusted either. Everybody wants to drill, drill and drill til its in their back yard then its not ok. No easy answer, most of the old hippies are older then me and won't be around for many more years, then who do you blame it on?

Once you seperate the "vitriol" and "rhetoric" (sorry for the political reference - just wanted to use the words ) from facts you have this:
1.Ethanol does not have the energy content that gasoline does.
2.while adding ethanol to gasoline may reduce oil imports, it actually reduced US production, while imports remain at past levels.
    3. Blended fuel is not reduced in cost, only effectiveness.
    4. There is no US oil shortage, only a shortage in refining capacity. A good demonstration of this is the lack of "oil crisis" generated by the BP oil spill. Millions of barrels a day lost, with virtually no reflection in the markets.
    5. And finally, the best way to reduce costs associated with oil and imports is with competition. Once Electrics are popular, the demand will be reduced, and costs will come down.
This should be our nations direction. More choice (I know, it did not work for utilities, but I still have faith).
Using feedstock to generate fuel adds farmers, USDA, EPA, and others to the US energy policy. A bad move on an already fat government. Plus, now all of those folks have a dog in the fight. Not a good thing when the "bone" is so large.
Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

Also E10 often reduces gas mileage by about 10% and requires huge quantities of precious groundwater and oil for production and transportation. And using corn for ethanol has driven up the worldwide cost of food which is partially responsible for destabilizing Middle East governments.

Fuckers - I really am starting to hate eco hippies.
You must really struggle with the enviros living in Seattle. I work there one week out of each month and I am surprised at the propaganda on your local news stations

Were did we go wrong, i guess California and the freaks there want zero emissions but then how will all the electric cars get their electricity from? the sun or Coal or Natural Gas. Amazing how no one in the Government can stand up and say Fuck No we are not turning our food supply in to fuel. Lets drill for our OIL and Natural Gas and tell the rest of the OPEC Goons this.

House Approves SAN Supported Measure to Suspend EPA E15 Program; Senate Action Next

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a provision to prevent the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from using agency funds to permit an increase in the amount of ethanol content in gasoline to 15% (E15). The provision is part of a larger bill to fund the federal government during fiscal year 2011 which must also be approved by the U.S. Senate. The SEMA Action Network (SAN) requested this action and worked hard to secure the vote. When signed into law by President Obama, this timely legislation will protect automotive enthusiasts and consumers from misfueling and other unnecessary harm.

On behalf of millions of auto enthusiasts across the country, SAN applauds the House of Representatives for acknowledging the need for more unbiased and independent testing on the impact of E15 on vehicles and engines. The provision suspends EPA’s premature efforts to permit E15 in the marketplace in fiscal year 2011. The SAN is now working to help pass a newly introduced bill (HR 748) to repeal the EPA E15 program altogether.

The SAN will continue to take proactive steps in Washington, D.C. to oppose E15 until there are conclusive scientific findings that demonstrate that it will not harm automobiles of any age as a result of corrosion or other chemical incompatibilities.

Please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts. Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.
    Rest in Peace Charlie!
