    Default Video Setup Troubles

Hey all, I have an interesting issue going on that I don't quite know how to solve.

I'm running VIP cables > Male to male component adapter > and an Apple Compnent cable + JHP VIM setup

Thing were running great then recently I got nothing but a blank black screen. After testing each piece of the system it turned out to be the male to male adapter and I replaced it with a radio shack piece and things were back to normal.

But again today the same thing has happened. Black screen again, I'm utterly confused. The audio both times has worked great regurdless of the screen condition. Red/white are run though a ground loop isolator also. Those adapters are hardly complex and I thought it was strange at first for them to even go bad.

If anyone has any idea what might be going on it would be much appreciated.

Not sure if I sold you this setup or if it was someone else but either way I will reply. I have sold tons of these with the Male to Male component adapter and have not heard of any of them going bad. I have had the one in my car for a couple of years without issue. Are you sure its the adapter again this time? Are you are saying its always just the video side that stops working? Audio is still fine? I have had a few apple component cables go bad over the years and several 12v power supplies. I recently switched brands to one that seems to work much better. That adapter is pretty much just a metal tube with some plastic around it and an isolator inside to separate the + / -

Well its happened again....video cut out again. Audio remains fine, this time I had just the pins on not the actual 18pin connector. I pulled the VIP cables from the car to mull over them to see if anything looks out of place. I really dont think it is the adapter either, as you said theres not much in there to go bad. Power adapter and everything else seems to be fine, hell I even fixed the whine problem I was having yet this stubborn video lol.

Have you had a chance to test the video cable with another unrelated video source to narrow down the issue. If its the read aux cable I will fix it for you or provide a replacement. Are you sure its not the iPhone composite cable? I would try another video input like a camera composite out or DVD player and also try your apple composite cable in the RCA inputs on a TV in the house. This should help you narrow down the component that is giving you trouble.

I want to be able to take care of you if it has anything to do with my products.

    Thanks,

You can email me directly and I will probably respond faster than I will on the board.

Thanks for checking in, I appreciate it. I ended up disconnecting the 18pin connector and attaching the 2 pins directly to the radio without the connector, since then all seems to be functioning perfectly fine on a bunch of different inputs.

I just placed an order from speedisking because of the free help he offered viperguy212. I've seen speedisking's ads before on CL and it was his posts here, offering to help another member that may or may not have even bought his set up from him, that made me think," this is a stand up guy selling a quality product at a fair price. Speedisking I just Paypaled you, can't wait to have audio/video in my G8 thanks to speedisking's kit!

I've bought cables from speedisking also and can vouch for his product and his customer service. He helped me out with my VIM setup when I first got everything installed and was having an issue.

Thanks guys, I cant tell you how much I appropriate the compliments. I try to be fair in pricing and help customers out if they have any issues. I have taken phone calls late at night and on occasion might have had a few drinks in me, but I would like to believe that all my customers are happy with the products, workmanship and customer service.

I would also like to return the compliment to "almost" everyone who has ordered a product from me. You guys have been so understanding and patient with me over the years. I had a bad run of cables about a year ago where the composite cable manufacturer put white shielding inside the video cable and yellow shielding inside the left audio cable. I built and shipped 5 sets wired wrong before I realized they were messed up and everyone was more than understanding and accommodating while I corrected the issue.

The long and short of it is that we have a GRRRR8 community of people who share a common interest and more than our fair share of members willing to help each other out. I feel proud to be a part of it.

Troy, your iPhone kit shipped today. You should have it by the weekend...depending on the USPS of course!

Terry, you need to add "SIK Rear Aux Cables" to your sig. You are an old school customer from way back when our cars were new. HaHa!
