Just wanted to get some info on what kind of 60's you guys with converters are running. Would really like to know times with street tires. I'm curious if 1.8s are possible on street tires with a converter.

I hit 1.83 - 1.88 with a Vig 2800 on a set of 19's

I hit a 1.90 with no converter on the factory 19s.

I hit a 1.78 with a FTI Converter and drag radials. Everything else was stock, I figure I can get that down quite a bit once I add some mods that yield some power.

Impressive. What mods? *EDIT* NM i see in sig

On a side note most of the advantage of the converter is in the launch so if you can get the same 60's without one what is the point of having one if you are running street tires. I understand it will help out with slicks when traction isnt an issue.

I don't drop below 4600 after the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. That equals faster 1/4 mile times.

Also, even with street tires, I can brake stall to 2000rpm and roll into the throttle and get moving quicker than a car with a factory converter.

That tells me with all my extra mods my best 60' of 1.78 can definitely be improved.

Should I hold the brake and rev up to 1800 rpm and then smach the gas pedal when the light turns green?

On DRs, I took mine to 2000rpm and mashed the gas. On one pas it spun the tires hard for a car length or two but then it caught. The other pass it wheel hopped through 1st when I tried to leave at 2500.

Try it, it might like 1800, it might want more or less.

If you have severe wheel hop, get out of the gas. The one thing the Aussie Commodore drivers have said will break one of our diffs is wheel hop.

One more thing I am going to try is mashing the gas off idle to see what that does. On drag radials, of course.

You should be able to get low 1.6s with your set-up on 17s.

I think so too, but I am remaining conservative until the 1st road test.

I went back and looked at all of my timeslips and my best 60' with the 3200 Yank was 1.92 on the factory all season 18"s

I'm hoping to improve on that. I wanna see what I can do on street tires.

I can't wait to see some times now that Torque Management is 0% :)

I'll put some safe TM back in when I do the cam....... *sigh*

Actually on that run my mods were Kooks LTs, NE CAI, and UD Pulley as well.

My most recent 60' with my SS3200 was 1.877, but I am having tranny issues around 4200 rpm..... this is on street 18" tires from idle. If i can get this tranny issue worked out, I will drop in a cam..........no use to right now until then.

Fiveoh. You asked what good is a converter if your 60fts are close without one. I have had converters on more than one car and would like to say that the part throttle pull from a light on the street is impressive. You can "launch" a light at very light throttle and the car feels so much more responsive to throttle input. I like the change in the way it drives. It feels like a much more purpose built "car guy's" car. Instead of a daily driver, it feels more like a play car. The fuel milage shouldn't drop much if any on a well built converter. The car will only stall higher without a sloppy feeling. I might just do a converter swap and a tune a check the quarter mile times. I'll bet there is a lot of difference.
