Thread: Engine Misfire - New G8 w/500 mi - Towed to Dlr.

    Default Engine Misfire - New G8 w/500 mi - Towed to Dlr.

    Shredmo's new G8 is being towed to dealer as we speak. First issue was Stability Control turned off. Then shortly the engine started to misfire. He called Onstar and they ran a diagnostic and told him to have it towed to dealer. Tried to tell him it was likely bad gas. Has only about 500 mi on it. He filled tank with premium about 150 mi ago, and had no issues until last 10 mi.

    Bummer......

    And I talked him into the G8 purchase......

    Only good news is he was within 10 mi of selling dealer.....

    Car is completely stock. Only thing he has done is take engine cover off and re-install....

    We're (other son and I) guessing it's a vacuum leak...

    Other likely scenarios?????

    Kind of sounds like the ECM ,never heard of the stab control turning off first because of bad gas. Yes bummer, let us know whats up.

    hmm... it might be a DOD system fault, these are 2 common issues when the system is not properly functioning. I have no idea why it's tied to the stability control, but whenever we start a non-dod car it will have issues with stability control until we tune it more for the changes...

    Shredmo will post diagnosis when available.... 510 actual mi.

    His comment about breakdown was that his 05 Subaru turbo with 52K has never been back to the dealership for anything......

    Only good news is car needed to go back to dlr anyway for "free" detail.....

    My car was flatbedded with a bad misfire 2 months from purchase. Turned out to be the ECM and it was replaced under warranty. In retrospect, I blame GM for the modding. Since the comp crapped out....the modding started.

    Turns out the fix was simple. The #6 coil for the spark plug wire had come lose. It was working intermittently. Certainly this happened as my father was drinking copious amounts of wine & poking around under the hood. Took the dealer until now to figure it out, so I don't feel that stupid for not going through everything on the side of the road.

    Glad to hear it was something simple. Everytime I start talking myself into modding, something reminds me that I shouldn't tamper with the warranty....
