Default Dummy light at exactly 13,000 miles?

Is my car trying to tell me that something needs to be done at 13,000 miles, or is it just an crazy coincidence? Light is on, so it's emissions related. Haven't put gas in since Saturday, so that should make bad gas or a loose cap less likely. Anything else obvious I should be looking for?

Just a coincidence. Have onstar tell you what the code is.

You can have it checked easy enough. It'll go away if it's a non repeatable code.

It could still be the gas cap. When my CEL comes on for my gas cap I've typically gone through a quarter tank or half tank already. I swear that thing slowly works itself off. I've never had a car that I've had to be so careful with screwing on that damn cap.

DING DING DING! We have a winner for best answer!

I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary,so I'm giving it a few trips to see if it clears. I suppose I could swing through Advance tomorrow if necessary. I just thought it was odd that it would happen at EXACTLY 13,000 on the odo. This is one instance where OnStar actually would have been handy to keep.

Have the dealer do a smoke test on your gas cap. Mine had a sealing problem at 10,000 miles.

I have had that happen to me twice now with the G8.....and I'm POSITIVE that the cap was tightened properly.

I went through all of the symptoms of denial on mine also, but the smoke told the truth. It did not matter how well the cap was installed or fitted, the check engine came on at a startup (ususlly after about a 1/4 tank's usage). The cap also has a spring loaded vent in the center of it. Have it checked.

    FWIW.

The CEL only does that particular check between 3/4 and 1/4 of a tank full of gas. So it makes perfect sense you don't see it right after you fuel up.
