    Default Vararam IAT question.

I installed mine tonight and did my HSRK too. Once it was in I started up like they said, hood closed and let it heat soak for 5 min to tighten the MAF. I loaded my new VMS Vararam tune and went for a drive. From my dash hawk AAT temp was 51 but IAT was 80. I drove for 15 min or more at 45 to 65 and temps dropped to maybe to 65-70 during very short WOT but quiclky came back to 80+ and hit 90 at a light.

When I got home the top of the intake and MAF felt cool but the bottom of the intake was pretty warm. I tried it with the MAF temp sensor (HSRK disconnected) and had better (5*) but not great readings.

Did I just get too heat soaked for it to cool down in 15-20 of driving? Did I mount the HSRK too low on the VARARAM ? Too close to the radiator?

It ran great but I'm puzzled by the temps I'm seeing.

Does everything in this install look OK?

BTW, the VARARAM is very nicely done.

Install looks very clean to me, but as you said it may be getting some heat off the radiator, but that would mean the entire assembly would be subject to this condition as well. Maybe Ray can chime in some.

I had mine there which seams to be where everyone is putting it, but I didn't find it to be the best location as it sucked up a lot of heat, as its over the upper rad house.

    so I moved mine here

I found it to be the location on the intake which heats up the slowest, it also seams to cool off quicker.

Until I saw your photo Ed, I didn't see how close it was to the radiator hose. When I first put mine in I had no heat soak issues at all. Then I started seeing a 20 degree higher temp than AAT.
Because of weather, I haven't had an opportunity to investigate. I have an additional Vararam unit, so I will drill and fill my current one to find the optimal position for the HSRK.
    Rest in Peace Charlie!

Thanks guys. This morning it and the AAT were the same at 66* as I drove the IAT slowly rose to a few degrees more than AAT but I only drive about 6 miles to work.

Last night I felt around the intake and there are definately cool spots and hot spots. Too bad the HSRK is in a hot spot.

blackrider, the spot you show is one of the cooler ones.

G8ray. I think there are, as you suggest better places to mount it.
