Default Best Headlight bulbs for stock system?

    G8 Team,

When I bought my 2008 G8 GT in 2011, someone had installed an HID system. It was 'ok', but I got stuck in a situation and had to have them all removed and stock installed.

The stock low beams are dangerously dim, no exaggeration. The high beams are friggin' amazing. The installation was done at a dealership about 5 years ago, but the low beams have always been dim since then.

My question to you all....what headlights could I buy at my local Autozone/O'riellys/Advance/Walmart/Napa that would be a noticeable positive improvement on whatever bulbs the dealership would have installed?

Your input is MUCH appreciated as this has been on my list for years now.....

    Thank you!

Something sounds not-right about what was put in as stock when it was demodded. I thought the stock low beams we're pretty darn good. I did change to some LEDs for the look, and they are pretty good too, but I haven't seen them on Amazon in a while. There are Philips bulbs that are upgraded H11s, I can't think of what they are called at the moment.

Best thing you will probably find at a local store, IMO, would probably be Sylvania Silver Star Ultra. Not cheap, probably gonna run around $35 each.

Been my experience that Ultras do not have a good track record when used in systems that use DRL’s.

Read the Ultras have a shorter life than the regular SilverStars which are shorter lived than regular halogens. So went the regular SilverStars which have better output than the stock halogens.

The Ultras seem to last about six months. One will go, and then the other. They are super good about warranty though.
If you can get at the light easy, maybe you want to put up with the hassle. If you have a front bumper removal to replace a bulb, stay clear.

In my G8 i bought Bulbs from Ebay. Itīs a dealer named " argocity". They have lots of bulbs. Standard bulbs with xenon gas and 100watt. I have all weather rainbow bulbs. I think, light is much brighter than normal bulbs. I have it too now in my winter car. Itīs a Kia Sorento. More light too. Only, the shine changes from pink in the middle, to green and white outside on the road. - But it looks good.

I'll ya what I did: I bought a couple of high beam bulbs and modified them to fit in the low beam side. Works great! I've done it on my '02 camaro and '90 pontiac too. makes a big difference! The projectors cut off the light so they don't blind oncoming traffic. And even if they're aimed a little high it doesn't matter cuz most headlights are blinding now. You take a dremel with a small grinding stone attachment to grind off the keyways inside the lamp connector and then grind off half of the top metal locking tab (the one opposite the connector). It's the left side as your looking at the tabs. Only grind off half of it! Don't grind off the entire tab cuz then it won't lock into the headlight correctly. I think I learned this on you tube so you might do a search.

The brighter blueish bulbs also don't last as long so keep that in mind since they're a PITA to replace. I'd go with some Morimoto HID or LED bulbs personally. You get what you pay for, for sure.

Mods include but aren't limited to: Texas Speed 418 (6.8L) fully forged held together with ARP from top to bottom, PRC 255cc heads, Rick Crawford intake plenum, TB port, polish and tune, Roto-Fab 102mm CAI w/LS7 MAF, Kooks 1-7/8" headers wrapped with DEI, Corsa catless system, Circle D 3200 Stall, 3.45 final drive, BMR's complete street bushing kit and sway bars, Eibach Pro Kit, G-Force Axles, running on staggered VMR 710's with Bridgestone RE11 rubber. HSV triple gauge pack with Calais smokers kit mod, V6 tails, debadge/rebadge, V6 door handles, AU black door trim, Maverick Man under hood strut covers, & washer and bolt kit, fully corrected paint thanks to Adams Polishes and my hard work. Built with reliability in mind with some power for those times when you need to pass or go over a big hill. Just a poser, not a racer!

I say Morimoto HID as well. I put Morimoto HID's (with the 50w ballast upgrade over the 35w) in my '14 Sierra- which had shit headlights stock. Without a doubt, THE best mod I have EVER done to a vehicle. Now, I did have a bulb burn out prematurely due to the DRL's (until I spent 6 minutes and removed the spring from the switch assembly), and The Retrofit Source (where I bought them) was nothing short of AMAZING in getting me a new bulb in the mail, PRONTO. I also installed Morimoto LED fogs in the G8 awhile back (based on a thread on this forum)- those are great too. And when one burnt out, again, TRS was ON IT getting me a new one in the mail.

There is a Morimoto HID upgrade in my G8's future- and TRS will be where I buy from.
