Speedo cluster question

Does the speedo/tach cluster in our G8’s store any info onboard, or does it simply display info sent to it from the computers? Reason asking.....if i swap my black G8 cluster out with a hot red ringed cluster will the correct info for my vehicle display on the new unit or must it be programmed by the dealer? Things like odometer etc naturally are the main concern. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can post.

Clusters are vin matched.

The dealer can not program them to your car. You must ship it to someone that can or have the dealer order you a new one.

Just remove the needles and swap the faces. Do not change the whole cluster.

ok, that didnt work. Thanks though. There is nothing about the guage cluster lamps on that site.
