Default Total GXPs that have met bad ends

A number of people were asking me for a rundown of G8 GXPs that I have been able to document as being Totalled/Salvage/Flood/Scrap etc. As a result I pulled together the stats today. Please keep in mind that some of these cars have been bought back & repaired and and have returned to active driving status

    72 G8 GXPs total, 31 manuals & 41 automatics

    PSM(64U) M-0 A-0
    SBM(39U) M-0 A-0
    MGM(18U) M-2 A-3
    SRM(26U) M-1 A-4
    WH(11U) M-7 A-6
    MSM(17U) M-6 A-7
    LR(62U) M-10 A-9
    PBM(80U) M-5 A-12

If any of you have parts from a parted GXP, or know for sure that a GXP was totalled or destroyed, and have the last 6 digits of the VIN, please let me know so I can document it. I keep an eye on copart.com & iaai.com to see cars that are going thru there.

I have been getting a lot of questions about how many G8 GXPs are "gone", so I did some digging in the G8 GXP Registry spreadsheet today. I decided to share this data with everyone who may find it interesting or useful.

Please not that all of these cars have been listed as Stripped/Collision/Fire/Flood/Junk/Rebuilt/Rollover/Salvage/Scrapped/Totalled. They have either been reported directly to me by the owner, verified thru GM, or confirmed on the Copart or IAAI websites. Here is the breakdown of the 75 cars that currently fit the above description:

    PBM (80U) A6 (MYC) - 12 M6 (M10) - 6
    LR (62U) A6 (MYC) - 11 M6 (M10) - 10
    MSM (17U) A6 (MYC) - 7 M6 (M10) - 6
    WH (11U) A6 (MYC) - 6 M6 (M10) - 7
    SRM (26U) A6 (MYC) - 4 M6 (M10) - 1
    MGM (18U) A6 (MYC) - 3 M6 (M10) - 2
    SBM (39U) A6 (MYC) - 0 M6 (M10) - 0
    PSM (64U) A6 (MYC) - 0 M6 (M10) - 0

I am not surprised that there are no Stryker Blue Metallic or Pacific Slate Metallic cars on this list. There were only 56 & 45 of them built respectively, and many of their owners are fully aware of their rarity, and don't put a lot of miles on them. I was a bit surprised to see 5 Magnetic Gray Metallic cars on the list though. That is almost 6.5% of the total production of 78 cars in that color. The next highest "mortality rate" is from Liquid Red GXPs. 21 of them are on the list, accounting for 5.57% of total production. Next we have White Hot cars, with 13 of them, for 4.35% of total production, on the list. Then we have Maverick Silver Metallic cars, with 13 of them, for 3.90% of total production, on the list. Followed by Panther Black Metallic cars, with 18 of them, for 3.83% of total production, on the list. Lastly, we have Sport Red Metallic cars, with 5 of them, for 2.92% of total production on the list.

The breakdown for why they are on the list is as follows:

    Stripped - 1
    Collision - 4
    Fire - 2
    Flood - 4
    Junk - 10
    Rebuilt - 5
    Rollover - 1
    Salvage - 38
    Scrapped - 1
    Totalled - 11

Keep in mind that Collision, Rebuilt, or Totalled cars may have been repaired and returned to the road. Even some Salvage cars have been rebuilt. That means not all of those cars have gone to the "big car crusher in the sky."

I hope this answers many of the questions that have popped up!

So the insurance companies are correct that red is a “high risk” color?

The way it has been the last year, my house would have to burn down for something to happen to my GT. Sorry.. amusing myself. How though I wish it was a GXP sitting in my garage not being driven. Awesome you have been able to document so many GXPs.
