I have heard that the coverters near the engine were added on in 09.5 and have heard they rob some power. would I get a gain by removing them? would I need to tune and would there be any difference in exhaust tone?

Sub'd. Curious about this myself. Installed solo axlebacks and feel the extra set of cats don't allow the drone elimination features to work as they should. Dont think a tune would be necessary, and I definitely think it will change the exhaust. Not drastic, but anything different will create change. Was thinking of eliminating center cats, muff, and resonators and replacing them with a X-pipe or H-Pipe.
I believe the difference between the 8, 9 and 9.5 was 5hp. 360 down to 355 if memory serves. The bad ones are the ones on the manifolds.

Agreed. Probably not worth the trouble/expense.
The manifold cats are very restrictive. You'll be amazed to see how small they are when you remove them. If you're not planning any other modifications and want an easy install, you might want to look for a set of Solo HFC's.
Many solutions out there.
things are not what they appear to be.....
2009.5 Liquid Red,Onyx Red, Premium Package, e85 Surprise Package
you will gain 6hp (355 vs 361), you don't need a tune and there should be very little-no exhaust note change.
Not to be clueless but what is the DOD/AFM? The cylinder shut down? Thanks
I have been thinking of some mod's for a little more power. What would be a few starting points. I was thinking the cat's and maybe a vararam. Open to suggestions!
depending on what your goals will be down the road, is what your next mods would have to shawdow to get "a little more power." A little more power to me would be a cortex tune, intake and catback. However, the next level after that (imo), would be a pat g./rick crawford tune, intake, long tube's, high flow cats/cat delete and catback. These to me would be a good starting point for "a little more power", or to get you to the next level for "more power". Only do a cortex tune if you are ONLY planning on intake and catback.
