Default Threw the AC belt today

It didn't get chewed up or knock the other belt off. So I just put it back on. It's the first time, at over 80k miles. I replaced both belts a couple years ago. How long do you think it'll stay put before I have to do something? Looking at the price of the revised bracket with the additional idler, I'm hoping maybe I could get away with a new belt and tensioner. Maybe a slightly longer belt to get more wrap?

Shorter belt, or there is a "stretchy belt" that comes with the install tool. I believe it's used on the camaro. Look up user pir4te for info.

At 80K miles it's time to replace that belt if it's thrown again.
    Rest in Peace Charlie!

You shouldn't need the upgraded mount with the idler unless making considerably more horsepower than stock. I'd venture a guess that your tensioner is weak.

I replaced the belt a while back. It has at most 20k on it.

I think I'll order a new tensioner. Any bad experiences with Dayco or Gates tensioners?

I'd bet that's probably where GM gets them! Replace the belt too! It can break the cam sensor so it's worth the extra cost IMO.

Do the dual idle bracket and be done. The belt is thrown dues to resonance of the belt between the dampener and ac pulley. No belt or new single tensioner will change that distance.

I guarantee, beyond any doubt, GM would not be putting that new dual idler out if a simple belt change was a fix. The second idler changes the belt span, eliminating the resonance.

I don't doubt they tried cheaper alternatives first, but $200 bucks... I'll put a belt back on once every 80,000 miles for that.

I'd look for a fix regardless.... Dual idler or stretchy belt. You got luck it didn't take out compressor pulley.
