    Default Chiller Inquiry

    Great info by the way
    Hey Woodshed.

    I “bypassed” the heat exchanger.

    a) at the time of install - there was no device (that I was aware of) to bypass based on coolant temp
    b) Phil just announced a device just like that. Heck of a neat design. I don’t have it but it sure sounds like it’s worth investigating/ testing.
    c) there is “one area of interest” on the chiller. In early driving is appears to have reduced the amount of cooling efficiency to the cabin. However, Phil’s design has an adjustable valve to divert more cooling into the cabin. Way cool. I will need to play with that as summer rolls in. Being in Houston - AC is not an automotive “feature” - it is a survival system!

Here is a better picture of the automatic bypass valve. One is aluminum and the other acetal plastic. Still testing the plastic variant... I want something that doesnt transfer as much heat as the aluminum yet still sturdy.

This is a plug and play valve... no vacuum lines, no controllers, no wires, no external mechanical actuator. If your water temp is less than 90ºF, it will bypass the HX so you dont have to worry about it.

Very cool gentleman. If this isn’t old school hot rodding, I don’t know what is.

I’ve obviously got a lot of other things to sort out before a chiller, but the chiller is going on the list.

Pretty slick that it works with a temp sensor.
