    Default LS7 Lifters

Wanting to purchase a DOD delete kit for my G8. Only thing holding be back is the comments I see about the LS7 Lifters failing. Could it be the installer or a bad lifter. I know it's man made part and anything can fail. Any feedback will help thanks.

Preload is vital. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

So far so good on my .629 lift cam for 2 years seeing 7k. Soak them in oil and roll the tips to work the oil into the bearings. Do not pump them up as you may get an inaccurate preload reading. Proper pushrod length is key.

I'd be willing to bet those people had any from below list (or any combination of)

    1) Aggressive cam profiles
    2) Crappy springs
    3) 5/8 thin wall pushrods
    4) Heavy valves

Losing control of the valve train is the biggest reason for lifter failure. I've never had a problem with them.

what STL_G8GT said, and also proper valvetrain geometry in general is key...

Comp LSL and LXL lobes are your friend (or similar from Lunati, which also work great)... swap the intake valves to hollow stem, install the Comp trunion retrofit kit for the rockers, go with LS7 lifters w/ proper preload and make sure your pushrods are spec... if you want a recipe here's mine, I've put 50k miles on this DOD delete package and the only thing I've had to change is the oil:

Custom Grind Cam from Comp Cams: 218/230 0.606/0.605 115+3 (LSL lobe intake, LXL lobe exhaust)

PRC 0.650 Dual Valve Springs (in retrospect this was too much spring, beehives would have been fine but they've worked for me so...)

    7.400 Pushrods

    LS7 lifters throughout

    LS3 hollow stem intake valves

    Comp Cams Rocker Trunion Upgrade

... and of course the LS2 valley pieces etc.

My overall combo is good for 430/420 to the wheels running through a stock stall with a 650 rpm idle... your mileage may vary but I like it...

edit: while you have it all torn apart you may consider going to an LS6 oil pump... with the DOD pieces out the high volume pump is overkill... I use the LS6 pump and it works great...
