Your nasty slapping sound is the tensioner whacking against the stop.
No it should not be at maximum rotation before you even start the engine.
If you've routed the belt correctly then you need a slightly longer serpentine belt.

Strange, I crossed the part number, and even found forum members using it, but that would explain the install issues also.

I guess I'll pull it off, and try the old belt again. If I just start the car without the belt for a short period of time, would this let me know?

Stock belt with all stock pullies is 6PK1937 92067442 or 92290768
Yes you can run it for a minute with no belt to confirm noises.

Bastards gave me the wrong belt. Package was right, belt was wrong. Once you get the correct part its a 30 sec install. No chirps no slap.

    Glad you got it sorted.
(Always check the contents match the package, especially if the package shows signs of being opened.)

Yeah, seems obvious, but you'd think they'd have a belt right! Showed me!
    Thanks for the help.

Crazy Paul... thanks for the diagram and tensioner twist info. Just installed both belts this morning... easy !

My local car-monkeys at Q Pontiac in Tucson replaced my generator and harmonic balancer and therefore had to put both belts back on. AND THEY MADE MISTAKES ON BOTH BELTS !

I have the double idler A/C belt and they ran the belt ABOVE the upper idler.

They forgot to tighten the idler on the main belt...so it came loose...the belt slipped off... and shredded. I couldn't believe it !!
