Thread: Aftermarket 3.73 gears for the Camaro Differential

    Default Aftermarket 3.73 gears for the Camaro Differential

    I currently have 3.45 gears in a Camaro diff. My plan was to get a 3.70 diff for the car, but I have been "given" the opportunity to put aftermarket 3.73 Camaro gears in my car. I have only heard of G8s putting 3.70 gears in the their cars since thats what the diffs come with. Does anyone think I will have a problem with putting 3.73 gears in my car, instead of 3.70? I dont know if there is a big difference or not.

    Not much difference between a 3.70 and a 3.73. Not sure why you would want a 3.73 in a daily driver. Maybe in a 1/8th mile car, but a 3.45 at your power level should be more then enough.

    I believe that it will help me more on the street. I do a lot more street racing than track racing. I get to the track about 5 times a year, if that. I need some more acceleration on the street. I think these will help me a lot

    If you are having any kind of wheel spin on the street it will be worse and your trans tune will need to be adjusted for the gear and 1st gear will be almost worthless it will happen so fast

    Don't do it. I had 3.73's in a DD car and it was miserable. Might as well have a fuel truck follow you around, and 3000rpm's at 60-70mph on the highway isn't any fun.

    The g8 auto would spin maybe 2400rpms at 70. My m6 is right at 2000

    Currently I can smack it in 2nd on the street and not spin. I have been practicing easing into 1st for a better launch on the street. This is all on 26.5 inch NTO5 street tires.. not drag radials. I will be getting 28 inch drag radials that should help me out a lot

    Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

    08 G8 GT, IOM, Rotofab, HSRK, Kooks LTs, track pipes, Custom engine covers, catch can, radiator cover, and tranny tunnel brace. 402hp/396tq - not bad for a bolt -on car.
    8.43 1/8th; 2.01 60' - no skillz.
