Red face time it takes to install underdrive pulley?

just got off the phone with my local speed shop and thay told me that it will take them 5 1/2 hours to replace the underdrive pulley. why does that not sound right to me? they said that if it is pressed on they will have to take the rad. out and put a puller on it. can someone shead some light on the process im replaceing the udp please?

I was messing around (not in a hurry) and got mine off and on in under 4 hours..... but it is my least like job so far on the car..... it is a pain in the butt ... at least it was for me....

I removed from bumper, fan, radiator..... not sure if you need front bumper off but I was doing it when I was doing my maggie... ?(removing udp to put normal one back one...)...

not sure you could get it off without a puller....

I know some shops that dont like doing this job either and charge more for it....

I would just get some quotes from a couple places and see how it compares... if you dont want to do yourself....

this. (Since Kurt takes 30mins, it would take the better than average DIYer 1 hour).

with a three jawed puller, there is no need to pull the radiator. The fans may need to come out (10 minute exercise), the air intake tract comes off first, belt off, AC belt off, back the stock bolt off (impact it loose), place the puller on, start removing the pulley. Once it gets started, back the stock bolt out more and go at the puller some more. eventually, it will come off. Install is easier, and requires a longer than stock bolt to get it started. I also placed mine in the oven at 200 degrees for a bit to heat it up and make the install easier.
Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

I can pull and install with rad and fans installed. Just have to pull the belts and starter. Torque from underneath the car while holding the flywheel. Use 3 jaw puller to get balancer off, and use a piece of all thread and nut to install the UDP before installing balancer bolt and torqueing down.

Real simple and plenty of room.
