    Default Tips for Understanding Pods.

The G8 has a single piece "waterfall design" centre stack which extends from windscreen height to gear shift surround height.

The G8 centre stack meets the gear shift surround at a sharp angle.

If you want to fit an Omega GPS pod, Calais Airvent pod, HSV triple gauge pod or Performance Defined 5 gauge pod then all of these are designed to fit with a "horizontal design" centre stack.
All of the "horizontal design" items use a Calais stereo stack surround trim which is only 2/3 height (it only reaches as high as the horizontal dash strip), and it meets the gear shift surround with a radiused curve.

Because of the radiused curve at the base of the Calais stereo stack trim (which you must use if fitting any of the 1/3 height pods shown above), your stock G8 flat gear surround trim would no longer fit properly.

2008 G8 gear surround trims are black and flat at the front.
2009 G8 gear surround trims are charcoal (Rado Silver) and flat at the front.

Your new Calais gear surround trim will be charcoal (Rado Silver) and curved at the front to suit the Calais stereo stack curve.
For a 2008 car you will be updating to the gear surround charcoal colour used in the 2009 cars.
The rear of cupholder piece in charcoal colour can be supplied also to match.

    Front Storage Compartment "Cubby".
The stock G8 front cubby includes a 12V outlet but is designed to fit with the "waterfall design" one piece centre stereo stack.

Production cars which use the "horizontal design" stereo stack with the radiused curve at the bottom use a lower storage compartment with a radiused curve flip up door.
There is a full sized Calais Storage Compartment which has nothing inside but can be fitted with a full width rubber mat. Fitting this compartment means you no longer have a 12V outlet.
The other option which looks identical until you open the curved door is a front portion of a Calais Smokers pack.

The Full Calais Smokers Pack is the front portion with curved door and a rear of console portion (has a flat flip up door) for access by rear seat passengers.
Both portions have a small removeable ashtray/cointray, a small light on the inside dividing wall, a ring of light around the cig lighter socket & a cig lighter which can be used to provide a 12V outlet.

This could be either a Calais Full Sized Compartment or the front portion of a Calais Smoker Pack. They both look the same until you open the door.

Front Portion of Calais Smokers Pack with curved door flipped up.

Full Sized Calais Compartment. No 12V inside. Can be fitted with a full width removeable rubber tray/mat.

I have to buy the Calais smokers pack which includes front and rear portions.
To reduce costs sometimes I'll split a pack and only send the front portion if requested.
The rear portion in charcoal (Rado silver) will suit a 2009 G8 with no other surrounding rear of console pieces needed.

For a 2008 car the Calais rear portion will not match your existing black surrounding trim pieces.
There's a 2 piece rear of console trim kit available in charcoal (Rado silver) to make all the pieces colour match
    or
I may be able to supply a G8 rear smokers pack portion in black which would require no extra pieces.

Rear portion of Calais Smokers Pack (charcoal = Rado silver).

I hope so, I'm getting tired of explaining 2-3 times a week why any of these pods can't be put directly on top of the stock G8 centre stack.
