Post Holden fix for A/C belt throwing

"A proper fix is now available from Holden.
It involves a replacement compressor mounting bracket incorporating an idler pulley (previously not fitted), with a longer belt to match.

Most cars were previously fixed by replacing the commonly failing harmonic balancer, but a few cars proved stubborn, hence this release.
All VE V8's from 6G1EP4EH2AL419681 19/11/09 production on incorporate this fix.

For those whose cars are now out of warranty, or mod level leads to warranty rejection, these parts are now available for purchase at quite reasonable cost, and will take just over an hour to fit."

"It is not a recall, just a service fix, so no advertising.
It is only dealt with under warranty on an as-required basis for cars with proven problems, not as a pre-emptive fitment to every car out there."

    Part No.: Description
92244378 A/C Bracket Assembly (inc idler pulley) . Edit -- Obsolete, New Part No below.

    ---------------------------
92252927 NEW A/C Bracket Assembly (includes a new idler pulley & a complete new tensioner)
    92244381 A/C Belt

Edit -- See Pics of the NEW A/C Bracket Assembly from Post #37 onwards.

Pricing which includes Airfreight Shipping is Here : http://forum.grrrr8.net/showthread.php?t=24830
    -------------------------

** Those with an aftermarket underdriven A/C pulley fitted would need a different belt to the 92244381 due to your non-stock pulley diameter.
Your crank balancer may be under-driven, but as long as the A/C crank pulley is not under-driven then the new belt will fit.

*** Holden policy may well vary to GM North America policy, consult your local GM dealer.

So instead of having an A/C belt with just a tensioner like this:

The new fix also adds a new idler pulley (and replaces your old tensioner with a new one) so it looks similar to this:

How can one tell if they have this issue? Is throwing a belt the only way?

I've only heard of this issue on cars with a gen1 UDP installed (mine included). The Gatorback belt has alleviated some of the issue, but it seems like this would be added insurance for high revving motors.
Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

I wonder if this is a DIY friendly upgrade.

I would think it would be in the same difficulty level as installing an UDP.

I never lost a belt, and it's not from lack of trying.

Thanks for the info. I have an earlier style UDP that I am going to install. With this fix, I can do it w/o worries.

More belt wrap helps I guess. I threw lots of ac belts with a brand X UD pulley that had 10% UD on AC and 25% on the rest. I went back to stock and haven't thrown a belt since.

Interesting that the 2010 Camaro has no tensioner/idler pulley at all.
