I wanted to revive this thread because I'm currently at a local dealer with this problem. This is the 2nd time it's happened, so the shop foreman (who has been the most helpful of any I've worked with) has contacted GM corp engineering concerning the issue and apparently there have been no reported cases of this issue to corporate. Therefore they cannot order the parts that Paul listed (which are valid GM part numbers) for a fix under warranty. I'm surprised with the amount of people that are reporting this has happened, hasn't had their local dealer open a case with GM corp. We need that to happen in order to get GM to acknowledge issues like this and provide a fix under warranty.
GM corp's stance is that I will have to just continue to bring the vehicle in every time this happens. The foreman said he would just order the parts and have it fixed if it were his car, and I'm inclined to agree with that. It would be nice though if GM had a record of how many are reporting the issue.
From what I understand this is mainly an issue with folks with high HP, which means they have done some modification, either a cam, supercharger, pro-charger...making a warranty claim next to impossible.
You might have a warranty case with GM, as your car came with a supercharger. Most others would not.
If you are having the problem, probably quicker and less hassle to just get the parts and have them installed. Maybe the dealer will work with you on a deal on parts/labor, as they seem to also think it's a GM problem. But, getting GM to fix it, isn't going to happen quickly or easily.

Didn't realize that. Haven't heard of this issue on the G8 on stock cars. There is a thread on the G8 board and it seems to be common with higher HP cars. http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44387
Would be nice to have this as a warranty item, but doubt it will happen, or anytime soon if they do do it.

Andy at Livernois said he saw a few cars that were virtually stock throw ac belts as well...
Livernois Stage 1 cam, valve job, milled heads, ported intake, kooks mid length 1 7/8 headers, corsa cat back, rotofab CAI, Pedders XA Street Kit, BMR trailing arms.

Tossed mine on the second run after the cam, which was the first time ever. Put about about ten more in since then with no problems except can not get a pass right. Either too hot, get decent traction, but too hot and run mid 12's or when the temp gets right the steet tires will not hold the power and still run mid twelves or higher. Time to get some DR's and start breaking parts I guess.

virtually stock is not "Stock" in the eyes of the dealer. An UDP will keep them from covering issues with the belt, as they are directly related. Once the belt has thrown once, there is a very high likelyhood of damage to the tensioner. Take it off and inspect it. If necessary, replace it. The damage will be visible (the part of the housing that restricts movement of the tensioner will be broken).
Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

But then that someone would get banned for mentioning Crazy Guy.
