I just took mine into the dealer because of this same issue, but I may have an extenuating problem. The bolt holding the balancer onto the crank was missing!

A little history here: 102K miles, box stock. Had the cam/lifter issue at about 60K, and just had the two belts replaced by this same dealer about three months ago.

How do you lose the bolt holding the balancer on?

Hopefully the car will be ready today, but I am anticipating a big fight over who is at fault and how much I will have to pay.

Any quick feedback will be graciously appreciated.
    Jim

If the front timing cover has ever been off then the crank pulley/balancer has been removed and replaced.
The stock balancer bolt is single use only, because it is torque to yield, meaning the threads deform on purpose when torqued to the correct value.
The deformation of the threads on the TTY crank bolt are supposed to stop it from coming loose and backing out in service.
---If the GM bolt gets re-used instead of renewed then the deformed thread (locking) feature is missing the 2nd time around.
---If the GM bolt wasn't torqued properly as per GM Spec then there's another good chance it won't perform as expected.

Paul, it appears that my dealer is going to take care of me big time on this. They are claiming that the fix is described in TSB 12-06-01-006 or Document ID 2813743.

They are including the new AC bracket, AC belt, a new harmonic balancer and a bolt as per the TSB.

    Does this sound right?

Does you have access to this TSB? I'd like to read it. I didn't see it in the TSB section.

Try google on both numbers, post it in the TSB section if you find it.

My tensioner is super weak on my ls3 416. It kept throwing the belt and now the belt is gone. It obviously got cut. Would a new a.c. tensioner work from you? The dealer will not fix because of the underdrive pulley.

What parts do I need? It is hot here in Tucson.

If you are throwing the A/C belt then yes the NEW improved A/C belt throwing fix will work. Been selling them now for 5 years and to date everyone has been happy with the fix.
New bracket shipped (from Jacksonville FL)=US$190 shipped.
I don't know which under drive pulley you have but the most likely belt you'll need to suit U/D pulley and the new bracket is 4PK1065.

Hey Paul or anyone who might be knowledgeable on this. Yesterday I did an oil change and noticed that my ac belt was missing. I've not intentionally turned the ac on cause of winter, but the car has turned it on when switching through the vent selection. I replaced the belt but the ac only blows warm air. Any idea why? I'll also be ordering the fixed tensioner pulley as soon as cash flow is better. Thanks and sorry if this is the wrong section.
