the wheel hung on the lug nuts and not only slid on the only problem was the calipers

That still does not change the fact that the bolt pattern is not the same. There are risks to running the wrong bolt pattern, one of them being that it can load the studs improperly resulting in borken studs ie wheels comes off car while at high speeds.

Do you know for a fact? I've read that before too, but I haven't heard of anyone actually trying it. I'm not doubting you, I'm just wondering if you've tried it youself, or know that it's been tried. I've got a set of 16" Firebird wheels that I've been meaning to try out, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
