Is the drone worse with DOD on or off?

I have done the washer mod in the past. I preferred just one washer on the bottom bolt but after a day or two I would get sick of the sound. The drone sucked with AFM so I just turned it off. I don't know, it was cool but after hearing other G8's in person with actual exhausts that cost more than 8 cents it just didn't measure up when hearing it from outside the car. Inside it is muffled but outside I could tell that throaty burble just wasn't there. More like exhaust noise and not a defined exhaust note.
I just ordered my Pypes and hope to have them here and installed this weekend. I'll try the J pipe mod that my man JMorris has done because his car sounds awesome with very little cruising drone.

I agree, that's what I've been running since about a month after getting the car. I had a SLP Loudmouth catback system on my previous car (2001 Grand Prix GT) and although I loved the sound, the drone finally got the best of me and I started hating the drone on my ~25 minute commute every day.
On the G8 I pulled out the flanges and have one small washer on each of the 4 bolts. Just enough burble inside the cabin and from the outside/rear-of-the-car, and hardly any drone at all, sans an 1800-1900rpm slight drone when AFM kicks in. That can be fixed with a SC tune though.
I'm quite happy with my washer mod. much more cost effective and honestly has better characteristics IMHO as well (little to no drone, unlike axelbacks/catbacks.)

Good times.
The first step is admitting you have a problem....lol!
