Default 9.5 inch rims on rear

Sorry if I'm stating something that's already been posted -

Are you guys waare that the G8 was designed to run 9.5 inch wide rear rims?

They are standard on the HSV range, still 8 inch rims on the fromt but the rear run either 19 inch or 20 inch rims with 275 x 35 or 275 x 30 respectively.

You can find out offset info by contacting an OZ tyre and rim dealer like www.bobjane.com.au or www.tempetyres.com.au

Yeah, I've seen other people post stuff to that affect. I really hate the GM didn't go the same route with the rims on the GT and especially on the GXP. After all it is "supposed" to be the sportiest version.

GM doesn't in OZ either. They leave room for HSV to do the higher end mods like big disks and racing brakes front and rear and huge rims although they did move to 20 inch rims shortly after HSV used them. They keep pudhing HSV to more horsepower etc. so we do end up winners in the end.

on the 9.5 inch rear rim that the holdens run the 275 on, is it possible to slap on a 285/30/20 instead?

It should be OK, the HSV GTS runs 275 x 30 x 20 and you're not looking at much extra width with 285s. I had a look inder my rear guards and suspension and with 275 x 35 x 19s there is still plenty of room on the inside and a bit of spare room between the inside of the guard and tyre outside edge.
