    Default G8 Designs Rear insert

Not a lot of in-progress pics for this, but there is nothing earth shattering anyway. Sanded the insert with 220 grit, primed, sanded with 600, painted, laid the decal, and cleared. (reverse the clear and decal if you don't want the decal buried in clearcoat)

(Well that would have been the normal order... I screwed up the clear... so add in a 2nd round of sand, paint, clear, and then another decal...) As a result of my mistake, if I remove the decal I'll have a very subtle embossed Pontiac emblem in the insert, so I guess theres a silver lining to my mistake.

I bought the insert from G8Designs on Facebook, $50. (A little overpriced for a piece of HPDE plastic cut on a waterjet, but it is what it is)

Painted it with a rattle can ordered off of paintscratch .com. ($25 for paint... add in primer and clear, figure $50 or so)

And picked up the decal from refelctiveconcepts .com $20 (licensed to produce the GM stuff, also overpriced but I have no idea what licensing costs are so I'm not going to judge or complain)

    Before:

Here is a copy of the decal buried in paint due to a mistake I made while painting...

And then a (horrible) pic of a nother copy of the decal laid over top

Pic from mock-up to demonstrate the reflective vinyl:

    And the final product:

One word of caution: The Duplicolor clearcoat will eat into paintscratch's basecoat. The result is just fine PROVIDED YOU DON'T TRY TO TAKE A BUG OUT OF THE WET CLEAR, but just be aware it is re-wetting the basecoat.

Good theory.. this ended up costing me more than a GXP would have cost after the 2nd decal was ordered. And that's even calling my time free.

Yeah I seen what was spent in your post and its close to what a GXP Defuser costs these days. Well it came out good and IMO you have an original because that's the first I seen of this.

I did actually borrow the idea from a guy who painted one gloss black and put red reflective on it on a liquid red... saw it on one of the facebook groups a while back.
