I have the fancy LCD and umpteen speaker system, all of which is still stock, cheap paper cones and all ("premium", indeed). The tweeters and whatnot are passable, but the subwoofers... Oof.
Techno of any sort brings them to their knees, such that the bass hits for the techno beats actually occur on the off-beats of the song. For instance, for a four-on-the-floor song (4 beats per measure), instead of the bass hit occurring on the beat like so...

... it occurs like so...

And it doesn't sound clean either. It's like the subs are just rattling rather than hitting. Pitiful! Any other techno-lovers out there noticed this same thing?
So I have two questions:
- Would replacing the stock 8" subs in the rear deck fix this issue? Is it simply a matter of cheap subs?
- Or is it necessary to replace the stock sub amp as well to fix the audio issues? If so, does the amp in the trunk by the battery power more than just the subs, or are the amps for everything else located in the head unit? Hopefully the sub amp is just that one unit and, if so, how easy is it to yank and replace?
As for the other speakers in the system, the threads in this forum are pretty clear on those, so I've no questions on those.
Thanks for the help, ladies and gents. I think the GRRRR8 heater hose mod is going to be next on my list, followed by some audio system fixes. When I have to turn down the bass on a song just to be able to stand to listen to it, well, that's when it's time to FIX IT.
