Default PowerFab Automotive: Pontiac G8 GT Twin Turbo 6266 Build Thread

We had discussed this project in an earlier thread, we are now at a point that we can debut it to the public. This build and overall project was started with the right ingredients, a fantastic customer, a general love for cars and going fast, and a timeline with their out of town work nature that afforded a casual build schedule so we could spend the time we typically don't have thinking every last detail on this car. This car is all about the details.

It all starts with a single shot, and this is definitely the one. The apex of devil in the details ideology, the purpose of this build was not to be a dyno queen spitting out absurdly high numbers. It's purpose was not to be a 7 second family sedan with no real civil nature and a race only attitude. It's purpose was to be a well rounded street car, with good manners, a fantastic powerband, and a flexible output capability that would make the car easy enough for the Mrs. to take to the store or to haul the mail against much more sport oriented vehicles.

Initial fabrication is always the critical aspect of a custom build. Measure three times, cut once, and in that we followed. Utilizing a mixture of factory parts, specialized mandrel bends, v-band connections, and a set of performance goals in mind we set to construction. Everything always seems easy and fast in the retrospect of pictures and their story, but we can assure you that to reach a constructed phase of this level is many man hours of work.

At this point all hard part fab is finalized, we sent the 304 stainless steel constructed system out for ceramic coatings as well, and have begun final assembly taking into account both clearance and thermal aspects. For those that fear the parking lots of Houston you can see we have also integrated a significant sump guard into the system, drawing from the aussie roots of this car we felt it appropriate that the system feature armor to survive in all environments.

Our next update may be a bit as this car is not a time sensitive job and rather a labor of love, but we will keep ya'll updated on it as we progress and dial the car in through it's various stages of growth. Initial plans call to start off at 5psi of pressure and take it from there. Stay tuned, it's going to be a fun and informative progression as this customer’s vehicle develops!

Good question, to be honest i couldn't tell you at this time. We usually are contracted to build one off stuff, but if this system performs as good as we suspect it will then we could look at reproducing it. Similiar kits in terms of design and components used seem to be in the 10k range or so. Most often people instantly draw a conclusion to "well theres bargain kit X for $______" and then completely gloss over the details of the kit which can change a price tag significantly. We will see, once the kits wrapped up and has hit the dyno and we get some performance stats out of it thats when we can go back and do cost evaluations to see what we could sell it for without losings our shirts or destroying customer wallets.

Stock fueling except for ZL1 fuel injectors didn't last long. Stopped at 394rwhp/429rwtq with injectors edging past 80% duty cycle.

This sheet is a comparison of this same car stock (run file 2), with full intake/headers/tune (run file 10), and then the turbo system (run file 5).

The system is currently doing 4psi peak in the midrange and tapering to 3psi at redline. Definately not spinning these 6266's anywhere near optimal speed. But as it sits initial figures are:

    50hp / 84ft lbs over stock at 3500rpm
    23hp / 47ft lbs over bolt ons/tune at 3500rpm

    103hp / 121ft lbs over stock at 4500rpm
    59hp / 69ft lbs over bolt ons/tune at 4500rpm

Next we will likely be outfitting the car with a boost-a-pump unless we somehow have enough spare time to take it to the track before hand to establish what times it will put down like this. In reality we don't predict many owners running this low of a pressure level so we may skip straight to the BAP so that we can establish 5psi numbers.
