Default Have you purchased something based on reviews?

So I posted recently about what summer tires to get, between Dunlops and Hankooks. I've seen another tire brand mentioned a few times in that sub forum: Vredestein.

It's a European manufacturer, and is owned by a company that's owned by Michelin. The new tire they're selling is the Ultrac Vorti. I've read through pages and pages of other forums for various BMW's, Audi's, Aston Martin's, Maserati's, etc. Almost everyone loves them, I'd say it's 85-90% "LOVE them" in regards to either the Sessanta or the newer Vorti.

Supposedly the new Vorti is comparable to tires like Goodyear Asymetrical F1(?), Michelin Super Sports, etc. I emailed them and the response was good and informative regarding my questions about temperature, front vs rear tire design, running narrow (Sessantas have that issue, not Vorti).

I'm very close to ordering a set, but at just under a grand shipped I'm a little nervous. So my question to you guys is: Have you ever purchased something based on reviews/forum posts online, and was it as good as you had read about?

I do it ALL the time on Amazon, and ordered a new truck (2013 RAM 1500) without even sitting in one. I ordered the G8 the same way actually... lol

If you see that many great reviews, it's hard to go wrong. The only problem I see is getting one if you get a nail in it and pull into a tire place needing a replacement. There's something to be said about the big name tire manufacturers and availability. That being said, my Potenza's had to be ordered in due to the size. I say DO IT!

Yeah I've been thinking about the availability thing... but the other tires I'd go with like the Dunlops aren't something that's normally in stock either.

I thought about the Contis for a while... but I want a summer tire not all season. I might pick them up for the stock 19's I'll have for winter wheels.

    Bob..... just do it....

worst thing that could happen is you dont like them and then just burn them off..... I know its alot of money, but you could look at tires from here to end of time.... everyone has their own opinions but I would just rely on the company and make sure its established as a good tire maker and history and then also some decent good reviews out there....

    good luck !!!

Yup - my concern is availability if there is a failure.

To answer the question, yes I have bought lots of products based on internet reviews alone.

Considering I'm running Goodyear RSA's currently, a decent all season would impress me LOL. I'll probly order them later this week.

Now if the weather in Michigan would just warm up so I can use the new summer tires when I get them! (sigh)

Hahaha... Yeah... Any summer tire will impress you. Even the stock Potenza's. I went with SO-4 Pole Positions. I've got ZERO miles on them (Winter) but the reviews were decent. I had a Firestone coupon to pay 1 dollar over cost so I said screw it and bought them. Not cheap though.

I ran through the stock Potenzas, then a set of Potenze 050 pole positions before getting the DWSs. Remember it is almost always summer here. The DWSs were amazing. I would totally recommend the DWs if you want a solid summer tire.
