Default Am I crazy? Sell GT for GXP?

Could use some car guy advice here

I've got an offer on my GT that I'm liking. It's a good bit more than I owe on the car so I was thinking why not sell it and get a GXP. There's a few options for sell right now that I think I could pick up. But should I? I'm the original owner and bought the GT back in Feb of 09 and besides the general G8 issues (all fixed), the car is perfect. Runs great, looks great.

Just can't figure out if I'm comfortable selling the car that I've owned from day 1 and know everything about, for a car that will be used but better. (The LS3 is calling my name ). One thing that scares me is if the GXP has more mechanical issues than my GT had.

So what would you guys do in this situation? The GXP will be used but will have less miles than I currently have on my GT and because interest rates are lower now at my credit union, with what I can put down on the car, my monthly payments will actually decrease from what they are now. It's sounding more and more like a no brainer to me.

I love my GT but if there was a GXP available in the right color and I had an offer like you say, I'd be sad but I'd probably hand the keys over. You'd still have some warranty left in the GXP to get issues taken care of and if you'd like get the extended warranty from GM to cover you to 100k.

It's good that you have an offer to buy your GT now, rather than take a big hit trading it in at a dealership. Also, you won't have to wait around to list your GT for sale and wait for someone to come along and purchase it for a fair price. Only problem is finding a GXP for the right price to buy.

I'd say do it if that is what you really want.

Of course it should go without saying but make sure you find the GXP first before selling the GT

You have asked two different questions. You have logically answered one of them. You have a win-win offer on the GT and you want to make the switch. What are you waiting for?
As to the other question... I don't have any way to know if you're crazy.

I'd do it. I've thought about swapping my GT for a GXP, but I haven't seen any GXPs for sale locally, and then I'd still have the issue of getting rid of my GT. If you have a buyer lined up for your GT and found a GXP that you like, go for it.

Keep in mind your payments go down but your payment term goes back up. So you're back in the hole for 48, 60, or 72 months.

Besides that, if you want the rarity of the GXP plus the joy of a manual transmission, go for it! If you're wanting to spring for an A6 GXP, I'd honestly say there's not a lot of point. For the A6, with a good cam or heads for the L76, plus the shocks from the GXP and a good set of BMR sway bars, you've really already closed the gap between the GT and GXP.

Apart from that, I believe the LS3 in the GXP is a bit more reliable than the L76 in the GT. There's no DoD lifters to fail. It still suffers from oil pan and main seal leaks, though. The chassis obviously can/does have the same issues as the GT.

Excellent points! I did think about the term going back up. But if I do get the one I want, I'll be keeping that car for a long time so no worries there. I guess the other reason I'm thinking of going this route is I recently picked up a beater as a daily driver. I didn't expect the G8 to be a complete garage queen but good God is it ever! I refuse to drive it if there's even the slightest chance of rain lol. So if I'm going to have that kind of car, might as well get the rarest G8 I can get.
