Just a guess, but I've read of some people having issues with the shifter linkage. If the transmission isn't in park, or if the computer doesn't think it's in park, then the ignition cylinder won't let go of the key. Here are a couple of threads about stuck keys, both were caused by the shifter in some way:

Also could be a bad relay in the shifter/key system.
i got it out, no real tricks, i was about to put the car in the garage, turned it off and the key came out. strangest thing

My car sat a a GM dealer for a week because of this. Ended up being a bad relay after checking every possible solution. It kept getting worse over the course of a week. Sometimes it would take the car 10 min before it would finally let my key go.

One came through our shop recently with this issue and it was a faulty relay as mentioned by The Yeti. There is an accesory relay labeled "r8" in the fuse block thats on the drivers side of the vehicle that controls power to the ignition lock cylinder solenoid. When the relay fails you wont be able to remove the key. If it happens again just swap it for one of the relays around it and see what happens. If it releases then you found your problem and its a cheap fix.

Have you tried playing with the steering wheel?
Don't go to mechanic, they'll take a few grand out of you before they figure it out. This part is $5!!!!!!
This is how I fixed it.

Omron G8V-1C7T-R-DC12 (1 pc) AUTOMOTIVE RELAY
Needed tools
(1) Mobile phone/flashlight to see
(2) above listed part
(3) needle nose plyers.
Pull the little kick plate near the pedals in the driver's side.
look at the plate you removed and find R8.
Replace that fuse.
pull your key out.
Important to note that I had noticed when holding the brake and did the sport shifting in manual that it didn't always change the gear properly before I did this, will check and possibly update.
