    Default Diy torque converter install.

I just got delivered a 2800 fti stall, and would like to install myself. I do not have a lift. Is this something I can do in the garage? I have been unsuccessful in finding any diy instructions. Anyone done this on their own, and offer any pointers or instructions? Thanks so much.

    Dont lol

It can be done but is a serious pain in the arsh. Do you not have any friends or a shop that will let you use a spare lift? You need to make good friends with a local shop. I have an Heating/Air/Radiator shop that lets me use his lift and tools whenever my garage shop is not enough.

Yea it sucks in your own garage but can be done.

I did mine last year around this time in the garage with ramps jack jackstands and a trans jack.

Go to Harbor Freight, buy the $130 trans jack.

Even if you never use it again, it's worth it.

There are HF coupons in most car and gun magazines. There are always 20% off coupons floating around.

The HF trans jack is really big and you are going to need jack the car up pretty high to be able to pull the trans out while it is on the trans jack. I tried this myself earlier this year and it truly sucks. I ended up having to let the rear tires down almost to the ground to be able to get that trans out. From someone who has tried to do this (and seriously f'd it up in the process), just take it to a shop and have them do it. I am normally a DIY kind of guy as I rebuilt my trans once I pulled it out, but doing that was easier than pulling and reinstalling that transmission. I don't attempt to do that again without a lift of some sort.

All trans jacks are fairly big.

You don't really need to take the trans out from under the car, you just need to drop it down, pop out the old converter, put the new one in, and then raise the trans back up.

    What did you fuck up?
