    Default Oil change question

So I was getting prepared to get the first oil change done (4500 miles) but then I got the On-Star report saying that I don't need it until 13k.... This seems a little unrealistic to me, but I guess anything can be possible... How often are people doing this with these cars?

Do it now. I did my first around 3k a lot of people on this board have done there at least twice before they hit 5k. You really want to get the factory oil out at that mileage..

Alright. I'll schedule myself an appointment. And get the recalls done.

Will a dealership put Mobil 1 5-30? Or will they only put in the factory oil?

Request Mobil 1 5-30. Although i would personally choose Royal purple. You can even buy the oil you want and have them do the change for you...

Is there a drastic price difference between Mobil 1 and Royal Purple 5-30?

This is prolly the best deal that you can get everything for. And your choice of oil filter.

Royal Purple is not that great. I would use German Castrol 0w30. The K&N filter is good but I would go with a Bosch - better than AC Delco (which is WAY better than Fram, btw), and cheaper than K&N. This stuff can be purchased at most Autozones. The GC is ONLY in the 0w30 (yes, it's suitable for our engines, don't worry about it saying 0w). It will say "European Formula" on the front and "Made in Germany" on the back.

You do not need to change your oil. Our cars take a significantly larger amount of oil than most cars, which means more 'crap' can be suspended in the oil before it runs out of capacity, and also, it's decent oil (GC is better though).

Never said RP is the best oil, but it is great. Also any enthusiast would say to change the oil. Especially the first change....
