I posted to remove the trans from the bell housing first.
But when you install don't tighten the bell housing to engine bolts. You need it loose to help with alignment of the slave bearing sleeve.
Also it helps to lossen the engine mounts and jack up the front of the engine to gain more room to get at the top bolts.

I can possibly answer that question. I ran a Katech LS9R clutch set-up in my GXP that only survived 75 1/4 passes in 1 year and had to be replaced. Admittedly I launch a 4200 lb race weight car on drag radials at 4,000-5,000 rpm a few times a year, but I expected more out of a clutch rated to support over 900 lb/ft of torque, when I'm only putting 416 lb/ft of torque to the ground myself. I am now running a Monster LT1S clutch/flywheel with a Heavy Duty Corvette Master Cylinder & Slave Cylinder. The clutch pedal is much heavier, but it has held up great road racing at Road America and drag racing with launches of up to about 4250 so far. If it is still performing this well a year from now I'll be thrilled!

I'm running the monster stage 3 and it's doing well so far for power runs. Kinda annoying on the street as it shudders pretty badly though. I have a katech sitting on the shelf and plan on buying their slave cylinder when funds are available. Their slave is cheaper than a whole new clutch
If that doesn't work out, I'm keeping my eyes on a McLeod twin disk setup.
But all of that is after I have some v-bands put in the exhaust. I'm tired of spending 20 min swearing at the slip connection to my x-pipe

That is odd. I didn't do the "R" kit. I did their basic LS9X kit.
They don't even list the "R" kit anymore...hmm

I bet that the Katech kits hold up well for street driving with some occasional "enthusiastic driving." I just don't see them holding up to regular or frequent racing. When I called them to complain about my situation, they basically told me that I got more out of it than they would have expected. This isn't to bash Katech. I highly recommend them as a replacement clutch for a stock or mildly modded car that will only occasionally see track use (or with easier launches on street tires). If you are going to race your M6 G8 GXP, you will need to pay up for something much heavier duty, and you will sacrifice a certain amount of drivability in exchange for the durability.
