Default Car built with wrong part?

After struggling again yesterday with attempting to get the right hand side upper console cover into place I decided to do some more investigating. One tab just does not seem to be right and will not go into place. I remember having issues with this piece before, once after I bought it. The fit was not right and I shoved on it a bit and improved it. Another time I was at GONE and that piece came loose when doing some interior detailing. I had to give it a mighty shove to get it back in place. I now think I know why. Somebody at the assembly plant grabbed a part out of the wrong bin or ran short of the correct part. I did a google search on the part number 92211829. I find references to this on Australian websites, but none in the US. The correct part number is supposed to be 92170959! The parts seem to be very similar, but are different enough to have separate part numbers. You can see the marks on the tab in the pictures below where it is getting mangled with me trying to get it in place.

I am out of warranty, but doesn't GM owe me the correct part for my car
Anybody care to post up a couple pics of what that tab looks like on the right part? I may be able to trim this tab down to size.
Crazy Paul, can you tell me what variant this part is actually for? Am I correct in my conclusion?

I wonder if I have any other non-standard parts that I have not installed on purpose.

I just pulled mine out and checked, it's the same as yours. I don't know why you're having so much trouble getting yours to fit. Mine's been in and out a bunch of times.

OK, so I might have the right part, or yours happens to be wrong too (unlikely). Care to post a pic of the slot that it goes into while the part is out? Maybe my car that slot is flashed over or something.

Well I had already put it back together, but like I said, it's really easy to pull out and put back in. It takes under a minute. So here's where that pin and tab slide into. The way I do it is make sure the other pin is in place and then slide the panel up pivoting around that other pin.

Yup, that looks the same. I was doing the same pivoting that you were doing. I think I maybe pushing inward too much. I think I may put a hand behind to pull it out a bit. Walking out to parking lot....

And it is in. I cleaned up the divots on the tab with an exacto knife and then forced that panel and the center stack outwards and it snapped right in.

Now the part numbers referenced on this forum and on the parts websites are wrong, or at least do not match the number on the part anyway.

When the replacement for the missing trim tab shows up from Pace I can get the last panel in place and be done. I am beginning to think the dog ate that clip.
