    Default Plan for exhaust, Opinions/Advice

I have read a lot of threads and have came up with I want to do for my exhaust.

I am going to purchase Pacesetters coated from amazon for 377 with armor coating and install them myself.

I plan on using the bases hobby shop so I will have access to a lift and all the tools I need, I plan on bribing some friends with beer to come with me and help out.

Then I plan on having this xpipe welded to replace mid muffler by a exhaust shop(Is it the right size?) or do I need the 2.5 inch xpipe?
    http://www.amazon.com/Lawson-Industr...rds=xpipe+2.25

I will also be purchasing the connection pipes and I will try to get the best seal that I can but if the exhaust still has a bad leak, I don't want to stress on getting a perfect seal as I will be in a time crunch to get the car to the exhaust shop before 12 pm so I can get everything welded up on a saturday, will I still be able to drive it to the exhaust shop this way to get it welded and sealed correctly or do I need to take the extra time and get a good seal for the ride to the exhaust shop?

Last questions 02 extensions(where and what kind do I buy)
Spark plug removers(are these needed to remove plugs)
Oil dipstick(I have read that it doesn't have to be removed just bent, is this true)
steering shaft( can I get a picture of what to remove and where to mark it so it meets back up correctly?)
I plan on getting new 02 extensions so I don't have to waste time fighting to remove stock 02 sensors, what is the recommended brand to use?
defoulers, do I need this? If so how do I hook them up or should I just pay exhaust shop to do it for me?

For the tune I plan on going to Virginia speed after about 2-3 weeks of driving the car on stock tune to get a dyno tune and the afm turned off, I plan on piecing all the parts I need together over the next three months. If I forgot a part or you suggest a part or let me know and I will add it to my purchase list, I have installed headers by myself a few years ago on my 95 impala ss but it has been a long time since then.

    Thanks,

    Walker

You need to check with the place where you are getting the connection pipes. Stock G8 is 2 1/4" With headers that most likely will have 3" collectors, you don't want to choke it down to 2 1/4"

If you run open headers, you may have too much fueling and a code for back O2 sensors. You can do it, but I wouldn't drive it 50 miles like that.

PM Greg @ Pace Performance. You should only need one extension. Driver side.

Spark plug removers(are these needed to remove plugs)

Good spark plug socket is all you need.

Oil dipstick(I have read that it doesn't have to be removed just bent, is this true)

It depends on the headers. Most are removed and then shimmed with a spacer or washers to bolt back on to the head. Get the washers just in case.

steering shaft( can I get a picture of what to remove and where to mark it so it meets back up correctly?)

It will only go one way. Don't turn the wheels or the steering wheel while it's off. If you have trouble getting it on, unlock the steering wheel by putting the key in and turning to on.

I plan on getting new 02 extensions so I don't have to waste time fighting to remove stock 02 sensors, what is the recommended brand to use?

    Already answered.

defoulers, do I need this? If so how do I hook them up or should I just pay exhaust shop to do it for me?

    LOL. No.

Good stuff, Ray. As to the x-pipe size, consider this; if using the stock mufflers, you have a 2" restriction inside the muffler inlet. Also, the rear stock pipes are 2.25". If staying with those, 2.25 x-pipe is probably OK. The issue will be future mods. You will likely want to go bigger down the road, and you do not want the X-pipe to be holding you up.
Yes for us larger guys that screw can be a pain!

08 G8 GT, IOM, Rotofab, HSRK, Kooks LTs, track pipes, Custom engine covers, catch can, radiator cover, and tranny tunnel brace. 402hp/396tq - not bad for a bolt -on car.

I ended up ordering doug Thorley headers, the collectors are 2.25 inches on the doug thorleys, so im guessing im stuck with getting 2.25 inch xpipe. I also ordered solo axleback so im not running around with no axleback like I have been for the past month

Everything is installed and tune except my solo axleback which I will do tommorow. My only question is from wot from 2-3 , my dash says stability control assist, I never saw this before, is it because my car fishtails a little from 2-3.
