Do you need the GM security codes to install a new radio in the G8?
I am talking about replacing with a brand new GM Blaupunkt unit. OR do you just swap in and play?

Needs to be programmed to your Vin, any GM Dealership should be able to do that with their Tech tool.
Any luck on this? I just went to a Chevy dealer, closest GM dealer to my house and they said they could not flash a new stock radio but followed with I’d need to buy a new radio with them if order for them to program it to the vehicle.
Sounds like they didn't like you having the radio allready because they would obviously would have to program the new one they want to sell you, try a different dealer.
I used to know what bits to change and do either an eeprom or even canbus reprogram with an ELM and some custom boards I built, but its been years since I played with any of that and got swiss-cheese brain
though you could I believe in theory use this: https://www.vxdiagshop.com/wholesale...r-gm-opel.html
with a tis2web sub ($50ish for 1 vin/yr?) https://www.acdelco.com/tis2web-tech...rmation-system
