Does this only work with Alpine units? Is it a double din opening? Thanks.
No....but the kit is designed to work with an 8" screen. If you go away from the Alpine head unit with 8" screen then you may have gaps around the edges and possible other ugly stuff happening.
Yes it's double DIN.
There is a different Alpine fitting kit currently being planned which is much more universal. It will be double DIN and to suit 7" screen.

This caught my attention since the 7" screen size is very plentiful over here for a fraction of the cost of the 8" screen units. Any idea on a time frame with this one?
Not sure if it has been asked yet or not but when engaging night time driving mode, would the new head unit be wired up so that the screen goes off like the factory setup? I did a quick scan but didn't see that mentioned anywhere.
