Thread: New Stock Bolt-on G8 Record

    Damn it now looks like I may not make it to the Darlington shootout. I went to MIR Friday and it was not I thought a good day.
    After working late Thursday night prepping the car many many stupid little things and even I snapped 3 drag studs I finely got the car done then a trailer ramp collapsed as I was going up smashing the lower bumper O well no show car this year 1am car loaded and strapped down.
    Overslept left the house at 9am then had a trailer tire blow out on our beltway I495 no spare My buddy Kevin was 15 min. behind me. Took Sher to Mr tire got a new tire on and boom at the track now it 12:30
    The first 2 pases were in the 12.2../12.1...
    This sucks I did better stock LOL
    After I got my grove I did 9 passes all of them at 11.80 to 11.84 with a I think sucky 170-1.90. 60' and 117-119 trap speed
    The trans is done for track days 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th I would shift at 6000 it would rev to 7000 then slam into gear feeling like old school neutral drops
    I felt shitty and disappointed
    But after talking with MGM GT, Drugs & G8Greg they think my time were great especially with the issues I have with the trans so thanks guys it means alot to me for the support
    Now it's time to get the rear rebuilt with 3.72 Put in the th400 with the 1 piece driveshaft
    Hope I can get it done by April 20th

    My cam is 241/253 569/578 106LSA,
    391 ZL rear, 3600 stall,Custom made single plane intake
    Raceing TH400 to get built/1 piece drive shaft/4000 stall

    Thats sucks... How many miles/passes on the car? Who tuned it?

    Well over a hundred passes
    Almost 23,000 ml.

    Tuned by Frost originally 3 years ago changed by MGM GT and me
    Tune not the problem even in man mode the trans slipping to the rev before going into gear
    On the street with street tires its ok but on the awesome sticky track with drag pack the trans can't hold the new HP
    Race built th400 time next week no more sloppy dd commuter trains

    I have to agree.

    I made WAY more power in my G8 and had ALOT of track and street passes under my belt.

    What trans cooler did you have on it? From what i've seen on stalled g8s its good to overfill them by 3/8-1/2 quart.

    I have a nice Jaguar 4 core and the JHP G8 2 core
    I think being almost a qt. low had alot to do with it slipping
    but still this gives me a chance to get off my ass and put the th400 in
    Plus I never liked our modern transmissions they are nice driving to work or long road trips and now my G8 does neither.She is now a show/race car lol

    A g8 should never be turned into a race car. This is why i sold mine. I just think the whole Th400 swap in a G8 is a kinda dumb idea. Putting a 3 speed into a car that came with a 6 speed auto i a litle beyond me unless you really do plan on making it a pure drag car.


    And yes being that low will cause ALOT of issues. I've tuned various G8s that had been 1/2-1 quart low on bolt on cars causing them to slip bad in 1st and 2nd. Proper level fixed it.

    I agree.. I've worked with Roy tuning his G8 and we had similar issues which .. As it turned out the trans fluid was low

    Yes it is slowly being turned into a 4,000 lb.race car as I can afford the upgrade needs just before they brake
    Its all now a hobby and doing personal best at the track each time I go out.
    It is my fun to go to a show or cruise in and show off my mods and time slips
    Most people are like WOW holy cow.
