Wouldn't they still have to PROVE that the tune caused the leak before they can void the warranty?

I wonder if GM is paying dealerships if they report modified ECM/TCMs, otherwise I agree with JerzeyGT, why would they care? If I were GM I'd pay a bounty for that. In all reality, we are modifying cars and IF the tune caused an issue, I can understand it. Even if it POSSIBLY caused the issue I can understand it. Especially given their current financial situation. But, for example, voiding the stereo warranty for a TCM tune is beyond dumb.
I doubt it, or it would cost to much in lawyer fees to fight.
Because of all this I am just going to wait until my warranty runs out before I tune it. This is my DD so I can't afford not have a car (140mi round trip to work) or to pay for sh!t that should be under warranty.
The one issue that is really holding me back is the Timing Chain Tensioner Failure. It appears that they will all eventually fail. With no real way of knowing it is broken can't that really mess things up? How do you make then check it?
Well I'm sure it's looked highly upon to have a lower warranty claim % if you are a service manager. For example when I worked at Circuit City(who are now finished), the operations manager would always try his hardest to deny a TV or other major return because it literally looked bad on his "sheet" and he would get scrutinized for it. I garuntee there is a similar system of crap like that going on in dealer service departments.
2009 G8 GT: Stryker Blue, Premium Package, Garage
Modifications: Vararam Ram Air Intake, VMS PowerFlash, PM-FL no muffler axle-backs, ARH 1 7/8ths header system with cats
Deciding: Cam in a year?
That would make the most sense but unfortunately until you get a lawyer involved they don't take anyone seriously.... but I do have a paralegal assistant who owes a favor... lol
Winning may not be everything, but its still better than losing
I don't know you. I don't know what have done. If you are looking to talk up a race for 3 hours, I can tell you I don't have the time. But what I do have are a very particular set of parts; parts I have acquired over a very long career. Parts that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you go home, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not punk you. But if you don't, I will punk you, I will race you, and I will embarrass you.
Then burn their crops, ride their horses and breed their women.
Dealerships HATE bad publicity. They can't afford to lose the sale of even one unit in today's depressed sales environment. Try this: Go to a sign shop. Get them to do a mock-up of a rear window or magnetic type door sign that reads something like, " _ _ _ _ _ Dealership won't repair my transmission leak and voided my warranty because I modded this car. Yet they tried to sell me the Sales Manager's G8GT that they had modified by installing a Flowmaster exhaust." (That's what they tried to do to me.) Show the sign mockup to the dealership's General Manager, and owner if he is present. Ask them how much additional powertain stress will the large aftermarket wheels and tires they put on the trucks their executives drive (at least that's what they all do here in East Texas) and will they warranty powertrain failures of these vehicles when they sell them as new vehicles after they drive them for 5000 miles or so. Ask them, "So it is okay for your executives to mod the same vehicles, and you will warranty them later, but not mine? Tell him, "This sign will cost me $50, and you will have lost me as a customer for the rest of my life, as well as my wife and kids...how may cars might we have bought from you in the future, and how many profit dollars will you have forgone by not doing this warranty work? Throw in, "GM is paying for this, not you. How many times in the past has their policy changes that you felt to be unfair cost you profit dollars and took money out of your pocket". Finally, ask them, "If you don't do my warranty work, how many sales will this sign cost you in the future?"
They know what a good sales presentation is, you just gave one, and they love someone who is a good closer. Close with this: "How about we remain friends, I won't display this sign, you go ahead and do this and my future warranty work, and next time I and my family need a new car we come here LAST and give you the final shot at our business amongst all the dealers that we will go to. IS THAT FAIR?" Always use the phrase, "Is that fair?" when dealing with a dealer, because that is what they train their salesforce to say to you. They like a good sales pitch and a good closer, even when they are the one's being sold. Use their strategy against them, and they will love it! You are much more likely to be successful if you deal with then in logic they use and understand.
I worked in a clothing store in college. Once a woman came in to return some jeans that she had washed and did not fit. We didn't sell that brand in our store, but she insisted that she had bought them there. She did not have her receipt or the labels that went on the jeans, but the manager asked her what she had paid for them, accepted them "back", and gave her "her money back". When she left, I asked him why he had done that and he replied that she knew she didn't buy them there, probably was told that she couldn't return them in the store where she did buy them, and because of that store's policies, that store lost her as a customer for life. He said, "How many more pairs of jeans will that lady buy for herself and her kids over the coming years?...she surely won't buy them from that other store, but she probably will buy all of them from me, and the money I just gave her is nothing compared to the money we'll make on her in the future." Goodwill, like your good name is really all you have to offer if you are doing business with the public.
Hopefully your General Manager can see the bigger picture as well.
And if they still say no, then piss in their landscaping as you leave.
