Updates:
Ran the car up to 10psi and had to stop because of fuel system. Will be adding a dual pump return setup with a 1:1 regulator. Car is also now on a built 4l80e since the 6l80 started slipping.

I think Ray meant that you stated:The apex of devil in the details ideology, the purpose of this build was not to be a dyno queen spitting out absurdly high numbers. It's purpose was not to be a 7 second family sedan with no real civil nature and a race only attitude. It's purpose was to be a well rounded street car, with good manners, a fantastic powerband, and a flexible output capability that would make the car easy enough for the Mrs. to take to the store or to haul the mail against much more sport oriented vehicles.
2009.5 MSM GXP 500ish N/A RWHP. Mods include but aren't limited to: Texas Speed 418 (6.8L) fully forged held together with ARP from top to bottom, PRC 255cc heads, Rick Crawford intake plenum, TB port, polish and tune, Roto-Fab 102mm CAI w/LS7 MAF, Kooks 1-7/8" headers wrapped with DEI, Corsa catless system, Circle D 3200 Stall, 3.45 final drive, BMR's complete street bushing kit and sway bars, Eibach Pro Kit, G-Force Axles, running on staggered VMR 710's with Bridgestone RE11 rubber. HSV triple gauge pack with Calais smokers kit mod, V6 tails, debadge/rebadge, V6 door handles, AU black door trim, Maverick Man under hood strut covers, & washer and bolt kit, fully corrected paint thanks to Adams Polishes and my hard work. Built with reliability in mind with some power for those times when you need to pass or go over a big hill. Just a poser, not a racer!
Still drives around like a normal car, just with a 4 speed now. Which to me drives better anyways since they dont have to shift as much.

+1 on what meatbag said. The turbo system would still function just the same with the 6L present in the car, we just never got a chance to test the 6L at the 10psi bar as it tapped out early on in the game. We have plenty of 6L cars north of 600+rwhp that are bone stock transmissions and regularly get beat on at the drag strip in 4000lb+ cars, this one for whatever the reason gave up the ghost early on. We discussed options with the owner and in the end it was decided to go the route of the 4L80 and we did. The turbo system, its construction, and capability to produce power, are all still right there ready to go.

Yeah, gears aren't as needed when you have BUCKETS of power on tap, but I have to say, the more gears the better in most other cases. It keeps it in the sweet spot a lot more. It's too bad no one has been able to make the 6L80E bullet proof.
AMAZING build by the way!

I never meant to disparage your work. When the thread got bumped, I took the time to get familiar on what your plans were.
IMO, a G8 with 4 gears is not a street car. It's meant for the drag strip. Again, that's my opinion.
More gears are better. 3 Speeds were the norm. Then the 4 speed came out and every one wanted one, except those that needed a power glide. Then a 5 speed came out. Everyone says hooray! 6 speed manual is normal now. I don't see any GXP guys wanting to go back to a 4 speed. Yeah, I know it's not an auto, but the point is, more gears is good.
Chrysler will be assembling a 9 speed auto soon. I know it's not intended for a 1000 hp car.
Bryan, I thought you intended on building more than one of these. As a one off, it's perfect.
I love the 4L80...... I personally think it drives better than the 6L80.... less searching for gears, and with the extra power, the missing gears aren't missed..... I think the 4L80 is perfect in a street car... as it went in a billion already... ...
I was one of the unfortunate ones also that the 6L80 just wasn't for me... even though I was more tied to the 6L80 than almost anyone.... the 4L80 however, hasn't been perfect either.... my converter went bad and sent crap thru my trans and messed up my pump... thus destroying the trans....
Some may say our cars are not street, but I drive more than many of the other guys drive their cars..... I think I drove at least 8000 miles in the time it was actually running,... .... I have driven in many 6L80's.... but I personally think I would stay with the 4L80 even if they ended up building a "perfect 6L80"... I just like the shifting....
so I guess each to his own...
But as for what the op is doing with his car, I love it!!!! and he should rest a lot easier knowing its got the 4L80.... congrats!!!
