Shifting is electronic - the Tap Up and Tap Down are momentary contact switches which signal the computer when the shifter is moved.

Changing them should be as easy as moving /or/ splicing some connectors -

You will have to rely for our Oz brethern for the pinout for the shifter connector since the service manual is not out in the US yet.

No, I'm talking about the feel (and sound) of the lever when you push it over to sport mode... It feels like the GM of old... cheap.

Mine was tight when I got it, but it loosened up and feels much better now, and doesn't make much noise.

if you push the shifter to the left while in manual and let it go back into sport by itself it will "trick" the tranny and go back into sport...its a touch thing and you have to get it just right...49% of the way back into drive then let it fall back into sport by itself

I'm sure it does for some one but I slept through my EE classes.

Thanks for the replies, I'm really missing the manual tranny I had in the GTO.

    Thanks, Ray.

If I read this correctly, then my earlier guess was wrong.

Instead of there being a pinout for each mode (Normal, Sport, TU, TD) it appears that the different modes consist of different voltages going out on the same pinout.

Rats! It is now officially beyond what I know how to do.

Looking at the diagrams you could either change the switches around or rewire the switches as such. i can also explain how to put in paddle shifters. I have designed it for my Lincoln LS which has the same type of manual mode.
