Not sure if it will solve your issue. But maybe it'll help.

Hasn't there been a problem with the clip that holds the shift linkage to the trans breaking? Fairly easy to access from underneath, from my understanding, but I couldn't find a thread on it after a quick search.

First remove shift cable from trans lever, move lever back and forth then into park position,if then reads in Park and can start and move shifter, cable is worn, If no luck, switch on inside of lever in trans is faulty, keep park brake on when doing so

Ohhh, are you serious dude?! That is really ... awkward actually, I have never heard about a similar issue. I had another issue, I was pulling the shifter down, it was getting fixed in the D position, however the dashboard was still saying that it is in parking, which was really awkward. After that I actually sold that car, and got a newer one from https://www.stanmcnabbcdj.com/new-ca...lahoma-tn.html. They are having some really amazing cars, and they are all in an amazing state, moreover, they are treating the customers really well.
