I look at it as this ..I use 100% synthetic oil in my motor ..why not high octane also.

My GXP did not like 87 when I put it in there once. While the engine didn't knock it felt down on power. I am not sure if the computer retarded the timing once it figured out there was a lower grade of fuel in there or not.
