Default Thinking of trading in the G8. I'm Surprised Myself

I really do love this car but.....it's losing it's luster to me right now. I've been talking to a Ford dealer on a trade for a 2013 Taurus SHO. Drove one today. Things I like are the all wheel drive and the electronics are very impressive.

I am pressing the dealer to give me 20k on the G8. Does that seem about right? 39k on the clock, garaged from day one. New OEM tires new front rotors and pads and brakes bled too. Coolant flush and new rebuilt trans is running great. I have a vararam on her as well as a catch can and heater hose mod too. Their number was 17,3xx.oo. We are a ways off but I think I will bite if they give me my number on the trade. These cars are reselling at 24k!

I'd gladly sell it to someone here for 22k. I even saw one listed online for 24k with 60k on the clock!

We will see what happens. Any takers here send a PM

Generally, 6k is the difference between what a dealer will pay and what they sell for. There is still money to be spent on reconditioning the car for dealership lot for sale, possible gm certification, as well as dmv transfer fees, stuff like that. To be honest the dealer makes more if it needs service/tires/recon work. If you want 20, or more, sell it private party.

I wouldn't touch anything with "MyFord Touch" with a 10 foot pole, at least not until they get it right. That system is the definition of buggy. Their newest and supposedly stable updates still have tons of issues and are laggy on top of it.

AGREED! They did just toss out an update on the 12 of December though. As soon as I saw MS was involved in its creation, I knew it was going to have issues.

I like the SHO and it was almost going to be my next car, but I couldn't get past the size of it and lack of room IN it. Plus it's going to be replaced in the next couple of years easy...

I decided to buy my G8 out of its lease sell my current truck, and get a RAM Crew cab Sport instead. My car with 50,000 on the clock in good condition KBB's at around 20,000.

I'll agree with the my ford touch comments too. We have had nothing but trouble with it in our edge. We are looking to get rid of the vehicle for this reason.

WOW-------glad I posted something here. I was not aware of such issues with the itouch system Ford has. Perhaps I'm jumping a little too soon here. It is nice to not have a car payment.

For fun while on vaca today, my son and I drove the 2013 Charger SRT-8 and the 2013 Taurus SHO w/perf pkg. Both are capable sedans. We also drove a Challenger SRT-8 and a CTS-V Sedan but that's for another story.

Let me sum it up this way: the SHO is a wolf in sheep's clothes while the Charger is a wolf in wolf's clothes. One is refined and sleeperish. The other makes no bones about what's about to happen.

Both are well-equipped. Each with a different approach to power and power outputs too, obvisouly. I was slightly bored in the SHO, waiting for the Turbos to spool and kick-in somewhere in second gear. It's too civil for me but that's just me. The availability of AWD on both cars is nice if you like that kind of thing. Paddle shifters, heated & cooled seats, heated steering wheel, yadda, yadda. Lots of neat features in both.

I would like to add that the dealer couldn't get the "touch" system working today.

Every dealer is working on month-end and year-end numbers too so keep that in mind when talking to them.

I'm likely one of the few people like this, but I kinda enjoy the G8 not having so many "bells & whistles". The modern cars these days seem cluttered to me like they're trying to one-up each other with gadgets and gizmos. When I'm driving Christine I'm enjoying the experience and not fiddling with some touch-screen internet connected dohicky.
