    Default Where to get R-134a?

Where can I buy R-134a cheapest? Also, do you have any suggestions of a good cheap* A/C guy? I've had my truck in the shop twice for A/C repair. The evaporator was replace both times, but the system is still leaking somewhere and there seems to be no visual sign of the leak.

*I know cheap and good don't often go hand in hand

134 is cheap. you can buy cans of it at any parts store. I think even walmart sells it. You might be able to buy a dye kit as well... maybe you can find the leak yourself.

You can visually look a the condensor and make sure there is no oily residue on it... one rock and you can have a pinhole leak,

I don't call $10 per can, cheap, and that's Walmarts price. Advance Auto wanted like $12. If I only needed it once a year, sure, but its a bit more often than that. Just a year ago it was only about $6.50. Another year ago it wad just over $5.

I think you should fix your leaks first and foremost. Once those are fixed then you will not use any additional R-134a above and beyond the initial fill after the leak fix which means you will not be spending that much on refrigerant in the long run. contrary to popular belief refrigerant does not get "used up".

Amen to that; my Suburban leaks out every year too. The stuff use to be about $5 a can.

You should only need 1.5-2.5lbs. $30-40 should fill an entire system. $9-10/can is as cheap as it gets for the 600g bottles. Demand, regulation and devaluing of the dollar has lead to the price increase like anything else I would assume. Lots of stuff has extra additives instead of just being the gas itself, which also accounts for a few dollars. bottom line though, if you want it for less you'll have to buy bulk.

You could almost spend $10 on carwash at wallyworld these days.
