The block isn't different. GM just uses a small plug in the block hole when using the oil pan with the hole in it for the tube. The oil pans are different.

I had the same problem when I did my header install a few weeks ago. I pulled the dipstick and couldn't find the damn hole the next morning when I was finishing up. Found it after 15-20 minutes. What a PIA. After about the first 5 minutes of feeling around, I'm like "ok I must be a dumbass" LOL.
