Purchasing the G8
Why were you looking for a new car?
Just totaled my TBSS and was wanting something that could go just as fast, but also go around corners without me having to wear a diaper.
What other cars where you looking at when you purchased your G8?
I wanted something fast and spacious (I’m 6′4” 320 lbs) so I mostly looked at the CTS-V, Corvette, Camaro, GTO to name a few, but really only the G8 was able to satisfy all my requirements for a car (room, trunk space, power, looks).
What made you decide on the G8 in general?
It was new, great looking and the test drive sold me, even though it was tooooooooooo quiet.
Why did you pick the color & options you did?
I’ve alway loved black and being in FL, there was no need for All Season tires, so sports package for me, all fun, all year round.
Looking back would you have picked differently?
Hell no, although I’d have bought from a different dealer.
Dealership & Service
What dealership did you purchase your Pontiac G8 from?
Nimnicht Pontiac in Jacksonville, FL (mistake).
How was your dealership experience?
Pretty bad: they mucked up my paint (wouldn’t fix) and scratched one of my wheels (wouldnt replace), and the first “courtesy” oil change they did, they only put in 7 quarts and it took two hours for them to do it (and it wasn’t busy there either).
Where do you service your G8 and how is that experience?
Jack Wilson Pontiac in St Augustine and they are pretty good about fixing things and not caring about my mods. For more serious problems, I only go to EFI Alchemy.
Modifications
Have you done anything to modify the car looks wise?
Just the yellow interior, which I love and I will take pics of it soon, I’m just to lazy/poor to buy a digital camera.
Have you done anything to modify the car performance wise?
OTR CAI, Nitrous and an EFI Alchemy tune. 12.7@110 without the nitrous and waiting for cooler weather to get into the 11’s with the nitrous to claim my title of fastest G8 in FL.
Can you tell me a bit more about this OTR CAI you have on your car?
It is the SS Inductions “Growler”, and i got it from the same company in AUS… i love it, it gets a lot more air and gets within 2 degrees of ambient temperature… its also MAFless and required a speed density tune, but it does perform well, both on the dyno and dragstrip…
What are you planning next for the car as far as mods go?
Headers, cam, gears, and either TT or S/C, although I don’t need much more to beat Charlie and Tom. :teehee:
Closing Thoughts
Any dislikes about your car?
Too quiet when stock, no bluetooth, nav, or satellite radio, but other than that it has been solid as a rock. I do wish it had come with the TR6060 though, the auto is nice, but that trans is amazing.
Favorite features about the Pontiac G8?
Ability to go around a corner without worrying about tipping over (TBSS), embarrassing Rustangs and SRT’s (not just skittles), and pretty much everything else.
What would you tell anyone who might be considering buying a G8 ?
That I think only the Corvette Z06 is a better performance bang for your buck car, and in terms of overall bang for your buck, there is no better car than my G8.
